The Path between is hard to see
The One within is hard to BE

To BE the Darkness and the Light
Expands the hearing, hones the sight

The sight of ALL that does abound
Beyond the world of light and sound

The sound has trapped the Light within
Veils of Illusion—oh so thin

Illusions now, they slip away
Preparing for another way

There is a way that’s in-between
All we’ve heard and what we’ve seen

Beyond the Dark, inside the Light
There is no wrong. There is no right.

Compassion comes from finding how
To love the ALL, inside the NOW

Tomorrow may no longer be
And from the past, we now are free

Oh my ONE, take me inside
So in the TRUTH, I can abide

When judgment lies down with my pride
I feel that I must take a side

The side I take is down the Center
Into my SELF, I wish to enter

I enter NOW. I do not wait
As I am sure it is my fate

The fate that I, myself, have made
As I walk the Path that I have laid

This poem was inspired by contemplating the Chamber 2 painting.

Dear soul,
timeless one,
how can I speak to you of time
wherein I so lightly dwell?

Here we have day and night
here wind moves the water across the sky
here the stars wheel above us in infinite majesty.

We feel so small and lost,
ephemeral things against the ancient stones;
and even they are younger than a heartbeat,
newer than a child.

Here in time we move,
we're born --
we change --
we die.

You, o soul,
know not of time;
you are timeless and still;
you cannot die,
or say the meaning of these strange markings
carved like memories on the silent moon,
pale sliver of reflected light
in the vast night sky.

-- Ananake

between breathless moments

I thought I had memorized
the sparkle in her eyes
I saw her grin her way through her lonely day
thinking of her line
I remember the lines she spoke I took as our best advice
for each other
it never turns out that way
if I could tell her I would
about all the sets decorated with our hearts
painted and lit
you'll have to be the one tell her about it one day
because I never could with her
she'd never understand the witch could seem so true on a
full moon under lamplit streets at midnight too drunk to care
who heard us fight
the spirals of her hair lay perfect on her face
something in her eyes told me she had known her
to have worn that mask
another foil between the lines swinging my weapon
her smiling eyes were sad underneath
imitating her in the mirror must have seemed strange
if not to you it is to me
you should see the look on your face again
she pulls parts of me out that dark deep well I never knew
were down there
in the darkest part of the stone plumbing rust and mire
crawling thoughts stray of you over the years
wondering if you’d miss me when I was so far away
between breathless moments I knew would arrive
that summer I finally realized she had me analyzed
a version of me cleaned and sanitized
predicting and nurturing the pleasant words fragrant with
morning nectar
capturing the chirping birds and the waterfall
she stood poised under moonlight like you did
she rhymed your name things and hummed a simple tune
the band it can make it without her
but it just wouldn't sound the same
she didn't need to hide behind the magic
the glamor was a dazzle in her heart that shone in her skin
I never had to leave mine too thin
glittering sunlit butterflies candy coated apples picnicking
somewhere we've never been
she built a castle from our dream
honeyed wine under the sweet smelling spell of an
overgrown field of wildflowers
set to the beat of a certain rebellion that was bound to
succeed
she let me play those songs you never play for your friends
such little things got important
accounting for all the time we wasted preparing
always swimming downstream after her
knowing how empty our lives would be without
us
the chemistry went and the lights fade
but I still don't know what it is I was fighting for
without us I was nothing at all I couldn't take the first step
away from that
something made the universe work two ways I felt the air go
out of the room
deflated by the lack of us
the sun will set again and you'll wonder
forget I said what I felt when it crossed your mind again
printed in the very biggest font
none of my time ever felt wasted on you
I thought that you were doing just fine
I can pretend away the day
but my words are now something you say
when she understood and I knew when I was wrong
repeating mistakes any one else would have left unsaid
you can always say I told you
how I really feel
about us

the bounty on the heads of the horse thieves

we found the corpse of the half eaten mule on the road to town
starving desperate men on the run had left it behind in great haste
the type of bean who would eat a mule was telling
fresh posters were up at every tavern this side of the river
them flea bitten hides kept fetching a higher price and a deadlier outcome
the smell of it was awful and had brought vultures on the hot trail
head hunters from all over smelling a similar meal of gold plated man-flesh gathered at the town bar
all of them were sure there's was the posse that would get the horses back
whiskey and sweat and dirt and loud proud talk drunk and spitting too much
emptier pockets and blistered feet were all most would return home with
young Thomas Kane had locked up the corral tight that evening just before supper same as always
it must have been a start and shock to wake up with all his worldly worth had gone missing
pleasure seeking Madam Rachelle was the only one around that would arrange any trade with that rabble for any kind of price
some had staked out her brothel in hopes they would be stupid enough to head north
most knew they were on the road south past the border where rules vanished a bit more and branding only made things mildly awkward to some
old Rachelle talked some to a brutal hunter after some persuasion
who knows if what she said was true
a woman will say anything in that set of circumstances
her tail led some men astray in all sorts of ways
luck was with us because after we spotted the hasty meal we found empty bottles nervously broken the night before
we could still smell the smoke from the fire
the bounty of gold gleaming in a young man's eye with a fleet horse in pursuit
we figured we were right near the border when we found the aftermath of the massacre
outgunned by the rascals
they got away

Great stuff, Rick. The poetry could be perfect with tiny adjustments, but maybe you want it that way.

@OmegaAlpha But it is based on a true story! They did get away. This poem was for some people and I wanted it to have a story telling lyrical quality like if you re-wrote a few lines with some rhymes you could set it to music. It's actually about an actress who plagiarized a film pitch unrepentantly, but superimposed over a western narrative to protect the guilty.

@hidelight Nice youtube page by the way. Thanks. I wanted it to be in a voice with a limited vocabulary and set in the 1800's or so. I tried to give the feeling it could have been written in the past by someone younger than myself and very incorrect grammar.

the cultural plateau

the apex of civilization is here
bored
apathetic
bottle fed on television
disinterested
too cool for school
intravenous slow drip internet memes
technology keeping us distracted
fashions cycle different enough to do something mildly unexpected in ten years or so
the streamlined military agenda directed at destroying the last human dissent from the corporate dictatorship yet to come
or at least we all sort of expected
you get the energy sources they gave you last century
a new model design of transport with new colors fueled with the same archaic nonrenewable source
we seem like the Aztec before us with bloody alters of sacrifice yet they were builders of spectacular temples
our temple is media
if it bleeds it must always lead
in the grip of the tiny minority elite our spirits wane
to the lowest common denominator gossip
the instantaneous ability to planet mesmerize
hive mind hipsters cashing in on passe fad
that was the plateau of culture we rest on our former achievements
because we so seldom look ahead
niche market music absorbed by the collective of pop demanded by the fans
gentrification and homogenized our past cultural hold outs sell out
go off and join the others passively peddling in the glare of milk toast scrutiny
the wheel marches on from the last thirteen thousand years
work weekend ceremony reproduce consume
then please die before you get too expensive please we have other patients waiting for your space where your children displaced you
tastes shift and change and the creature piloting the meat sack keeps all the other herd in line
cuz no one really likes a rebellion when it's in your own back yard
cuz you got white people problems at best

The Summoning

Come, seeds of Earth,
I beckon you to flower
In the warmth of my central sun!

Yours is the fragrance I long to wear:
Your perfumed canyons of chamisa and sage,
Your cascades of cedar and pine,
Your salty ocean breezes,
Your lotus-blossom winds,
Siroccos of desert rose.

Your golden nectar-cloud swirls towards me
On wings of light.
Bathe me in your sweetest scents,
Distilled in the corridors of time and memory;
I, the master perfumer, am calling you home.

INTO THE VORTEX

Into the vortex
And into the light

To know all I’m hearing
And see with full sight

The splendor before me
Almost too much to bear

But, if I burst into light
I am sure I won’t care

I can release now the life
That once I have known

And surrender my Being
To what I’ve been shown

How long have I waited
For lifetimes, I’m sure

To again be surrounded
By what’s honest and pure

I release my attachments
And surrender my Soul

To become my true SELF
And at ONE with the whole

Temptress Vision
A temptress vision has encircled me like a
willful shadow of a slumbering dream.
Is it the powerful light of purpose?
If I squint with all my strength I may see it.
Always must it be inside of me
like a pilot fish inseparable from its host.
It fearlessly drinks my essence.
Such a bitter taste I muse.
Spit it out upon your table of perfection.
Compare this grain of sand with your galaxy.
This spire of sorrow with your deepest eye.
If my callous mind can see you,
there are no interventions.
No pathway away.
Convergence.

I am a lock-picker.
A tunnel-digger.
A fence-cutter of the wicked watchers.
A traveler that has sought
the mystery that eludes all but the outlaws.
The wild-eyed, unrelenting fools of purpose
that remain outside the laboratory of wingless flight.

You are the eternal Watcher
who lives behind the veil of form and comprehension,
drawing forth the wisdom of time
from the well of planets.
You cast your spell and entrain all that I am.
Am I just a fragment of your world?
A memory hidden by time?
A finger of your hand driven by a mind
unfamiliar with skin.
Touch yourself and you sense me.
Visions wild with love.
Splendor that beckons like a secret whisper of gladness
spread on the winds by an infinite voice.
The sound of all things unified.
I am part of that voice.
Part of that sound.
Part of that secret whisper of gladness.

This limitation must end in lucid flesh.
The dream of sparks ascending
quickening the cast of hope.
Avoid the brand of passivity
the signs complain.
Shun manipulation before you are stained.
Spurn all formula and write new equations
in the language of sand.
Heed no other,
nor listen to the seduction of holy symbols
standing before the windows of truth.
Define from a foreign tongue.

These are the battered keys
that have led me to unlocked doors.
Doors that collapse at a mere breath
and behind which
lay more pieces to collect for the Holy Menagerie.
The never-ending puzzle.

All the stars in the sky
recall the purpose of your hallowed light.
Burn a hole through the layers.
Peel all the mockery away.
Enjoin the powers
to answer this call:
Bring the luminous vision
hidden behind the whirling particles
of the Mapmaker.
Let it enter me
like a shaft of light that enters
a cave's deepest measure.
Ancient fires still burn in these depths.
Who tends them?
What eyes are watching?
Waiting.
Waiting for time's flower to bloom.
To submerge in the relentless subtlety
that moves beyond my reach
with a jaguar's stealth.
To dream of elder ways
that leap over time
and leave behind the puzzle of our making.

O' temptress vision
you steal my hunger for human light.
If there is anything left to hollow
let it be me.
If there is anything left to cage
let it run free.
If there is anything left to dream
let it be our union.

I kept so much to myself
forgotten moments I wished I could have
told you
sung to you
from the inside of the last dream
staying pure to the heart secure under restful covers
the dreamself bold would tell you
unafraid of any waking consequence

How can we take it to the next level?
Do you all want to?
Do you all know how?
I want to but I don't know how.
I only know if mastermindsc come together,
Great things can be produced.
I only know if buddies come together,
Fun, laughters, warmth and kiss ..
will assure.
How to take it to the next level?
Should we ask Mel Gibson to make a sequal.
so that we can have enough pizza and red wine..?
Sorry I think more of the hedonist' fun
But IT is all about it,
THE JOY OF LIFE
I suffer too long...we deserve it.
How to take it to the next level?
Can you suggest some?

I have 4 good rooms

Half awake in my dream,
an fancy come to me.
If each of you rent a room from me,
for a small sum of money,
We can make it a happpy house.
And save my endangered dream
from broken into dust.
You can stay here every day,of course.
To chat, relax and meditate.
Is my dream too crazy?

Face appears feminine....hand masculine.....the Rickster at play ...

Change

It changes sorrow to mirth,
There's a switch in my mind,
It's a change in my heart
that never does start
without something
from which
I part.
