Since its debut nearly four years ago, iTunes has sold more than 2 billion songs, mostly for 99 cents apiece. With sales of about 5 million songs per day, Apple now rank ranks behind only Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Best Buy Co. and Target Inc. as a music retailer.

where o where did that record industy go? here ... it looks like. is it missed? maybe, maybe not ...

it just looks like a shift in where all the revenue goes, not much more. now all the revenue is going to a new place. the creative artists are still outside that struggle, but in some ways not also. aside from the independent labels, they now can go straight to apple corp to promote their artistic product rather than to the 4 big ones ...

Jobs suggested that consumers unhappy with the status quo should urge the world's four largest labels - Universal Music Group, EMI, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group - to sell their online catalogs without the DRM restrictions. Those four labels distribute more than 70 percent of the world's music.

Quote:
Based on Apple research released for the first time Tuesday, Jobs estimated that just 22 out of every 1,000 songs stored on an iPod were purchased from iTunes.

Apple's music sales have flowed largely from iTunes' compatibility with the iPod, whose immense popularity prompted the company to recently drop "computer" from its name. With about 90 million iPods sold so far, Apple accounts for about 70 percent of the portable players on the U.S. market.

1) it has a built in location chip. ie- someone behind the scenes with access to that chip inside the unit can trace all my physical movements and print it all off on a map in a couple of minutes and fax this to someone else.

2) the mobile phone is invasive to the body. a signal to the phone passes through a person's tissue and microwaves it. (similar frequency level to microwave ovens)

... found a book that was retailing for --- $ 222.
not a joke. & it had some solid contents.
so checking amazon, it is listed at only $ 149 .
it's a good title though. could be worth it.

some topics covered include ...
* EADS launch vehicles.
* spacejobs.
* ISU

Quote:
Book Description
What will be the future directions of human spaceflight? That was the key question addressed at this Symposium - in an atmosphere of realism mixed with idealism. Building on the foundations of the International Space Station, will it be space tourism, habitats in space, mining an asteroid on a collision course with Earth, bases on the Moon, or the colonisation of Mars? What robotic missions will be essential before crewed missions can be launched? How will these be financed? And when might it all happen?
Many ideas from the USA, Canada, Europe, Russia and Japan were put forward on the "whys" and the "hows" of our future exploration of the final frontier and what is likely to be needed to make dreams come true.
The Proceedings of this Symposium are invaluable to all people in industry, government and academia who are interested in the future of human spaceflight.

Galactic Dynamics (by Binney) link

Image

this would be more of a physics treatment of the subject.
how does a galaxy behave? (any darn way it wants to I guess ..)

Quote:
Book Description

Two of the world's leading astrophysicists, James Binney and Scott Tremaine, here present a comprehensive review of the theory of galactic dynamics at a level suitable for both graduate students and researchers. Their work in this volume describes our present understanding of the structure and dynamics of stellar systems such as galaxies and star clusters.

Nicknamed "the Bible of galactic dynamics," this book has become a classic treatise, well known and widely used by researchers and students of galactic astrophysics and stellar dynamics. Praised for its modern approach, as well as for the rigor and exemplary clarity with which the authors handle the material in this book, Galactic Dynamics includes classic results and data while also reflecting the many recent developments in the field. The authors maintain an effective style of exposition throughout, keeping clear what is present knowledge and what is still speculation, while allowing the reader to grasp an overview of the subject before following through (where needed) with the mathematical detail. Most of the astronomical community since the late 1980s was introduced to galactic dynamics through Galactic Dynamics, and it remains the most widely used graduate textbook in galactic astrophysics today. No other book gathers together and presents our current understanding of the field in such a clear and concise way. Through this approach, Binney and Tremaine succeeded in creating a classic reference of enormous pedagogic value.

it's only $ 56.

in chapter 2 - potential theory, it lists
2.1 spherical systems
2.2 potential density pairs for flattened systems
2.3 ellipsoidal systems
2.4 multipole expansion
2.5 potential energy tensors
2.6 potential of discs
2.7 potential of the galaxy

then to 3. stellar orbits
4 - equilibria of collisionless systems
5 - stability
6 - disk dynamics
7 - collisions & encounters
8 - kinetics
9 - stellar evolution
10 - dark matter

in all of this, one also should be asking (for common sense sakes) -- how much of this is X science and how much is top science. (X science is the doctored (2nd rate) stuff that mainstream universities dispense, according to some conspiracists).

on to the next volume that caught the interest.

Spacecraft systems engineering (fortescue, stark, swinerd) link
Image

this one goes for $ 72.

Quote:
Encompassing the fundamentals of spacecraft engineering, the book begins with front-end system-level issues, such as environment, mission analysis and system engineering, and progresses to a detailed examination of subsystem elements which represent the core of spacecraft design - mechanical, electrical, propulsion, thermal, control etc. This quantitative treatment is supplemented by an appreciation of the interactions between the elements, which deeply influence the process of spacecraft systems design.
In particular the revised text includes
* A new chapter on small satellites engineering and applications which has been contributed by two internationally-recognised experts, with insights into small satellite systems engineering.
* Additions to the mission analysis chapter, treating issues of aero-manouevring, constellation design and small body missions.
In summary, this is an outstanding textbook for aerospace engineering and design students, and offers essential reading for spacecraft engineers, designers and research scientists. The comprehensive approach provides an invaluable resource to spacecraft manufacturers and agencies across the world

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry link

Quote:
Book Description
Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry (GD-OES) is rapidly becoming one of the most important techniques for the direct analysis of solids. This, the first book entirely devoted to the subject, represents the combined contributions of over 30 specialists from around the world. All contributors are active in the field and recognised internationally for their expertise and knowledge in GD-OES. The book begins with an introductory overview of the subjects, deals with the design of the instrument, its operation and analytical methods and describes in detail the complex plasma processes which occur inside the glow discharge source. The second part of the book is more practically orientated, showing the full range of uses for GD-OES from the bulk analysis of virtually any solid material to depth profiling within the first tens of micrometres of a variety of surfaces and coatings. Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry is intended for a wide audience of scientists, engineers and postgraduate students and will be a valuable and challenging reference work for both experienced users of the technique and newcomers alike.

Two years ago, on 14 January 2005, the European probe Huygens touched down on the surface of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, completing a seven-year voyage through space. link

After a textbook landing, the valiant little 318-kg probe immediately set to work, and within four minutes had relayed the first virgin data of its environment to its mothership, the Cassini orbiter which had carried it on the journey of over one billion kilometres from Earth.

The in-situ observations provided by Huygens' instruments make up an eagerly awaited data set for the scientific community, a rich resource which is deepening understanding of this distant world, the only moon in the solar system which has an atmosphere believed to be quite similar to the primeval atmosphere of the Earth.

Astrium is major player in the Huygens programme: responsible for developing, integrating and testing the entire probe, design and manufacture of the heat shield and aft thermal protection system, including aerodynamic specification, trajectory calculations and the parachute braking system. link

Talking about "Apples" ........
this from another "sight"
To Win the Love of a Woman

(chant the following three times over an apple or a pomegranate; give the fruit to the woman to drink of the juices, and she will surely come to you.)

MUNUS SIGSIGGA AG BARA YE INNIN AGGISH XASHXUR GISHNU URMA SHAZIGA BARA YE ZIGASHUBBA NA AGSISHAMAZIGA NAMZA YE INNIN DURRE ESH AKKI UGU AGBA ANDAGUB!
Now we have "chants" built in to every apple ......... thousands of them. I wonder who is doing the "enchanting" <smiling>. And what the heck do those words really MEAN anyway ???????

Love

this writer is exactly what I had in mind when I started this thread.

the site - http://www.naturalcures.com/

and an excellent synopsis of the contents of the 1st book -
http://home.comcast.net/~mjharman1/natural_cures.htm

what I had in mind is that the business model (the basic economic model as it is known and described in most economics courses in schools and universities) is fundamentally flawed.

the reason it is flawed is that profit is mostly the only overriding motive of all business activity, and particularly when it involves corporations of large scale. this is built in to the structure of all corporate activity.

the fact that profit does not allow for secondary considerations such as -- <public health> - and as kevin trudeau points out, actually seeks to hinder it in certain cases, makes the economic model suspect.

KT is going right to the core of where the worst offenses occur in this pervasive culture-running and politically dominant economic model. he is focused on how public health is systematically compromised as an outcome of the structural need for pharmaceutical corporations to deliver profits to their shareholders. at any cost. what I like about KT's writing is that he recognizes that major memes are at play here, and so he repeats some statements 3 or 4 times because he knows he has to crack a hard shell within the genetic mind.

he also demonstrates that a 'state of war' is almost perpetual in greater or lesser degree, which is not very utopian but at least it is done with intended clarity. (in a personal view, I would allude to the higher planes of 'no war' as existing perpetually also, but these are placed squarely in consciousness) KT here points to the present 3D plane, enough said I hope.

I want to make brief mention of the 'Herod syndrome' that being mentioned in the olden scriptures, where a certain 'earthly king' wished to pre-empt the possible rise of challengers to his tyranny by eliminating them right at birth or soon thereafter. (ie- Jesus) vaccines come to mind here, so do procedures to remove healthy glands and so on. so does fluoridation, putting rat poison into tap water. or putting chemicals in food that have no business being in consumable foods. what we have today then is the 'Lea' who also is seen as a threat, but thankfully Lea is a metaphor for 'enlightened humanity' - thus the Herods are rightfully shocked because the critical mass has been passed, it has come and gone already, and there is no stopping the fact that their darkness shall be exposed. in plain daylight.

back to kevin truddeau. he deals with the pharmaceuticals, big pharma, to demonstrate beyond a doubt that a healthy population would mean that these corps all go out of business.

he actually has to repeat this 3 or 4 times because it takes a while for it to sink in -- a vibrant and healthy population means that these corporations - the big pharma mostly - but also most of the doctors, the western-style doctors anyway - all go out of business. (ahem, do they all want to go out of business?) <--- (is this a core paradox of the business model?)

these are strong memes. he demonstrates that public sickness is highly profitable for these corporations. '-tough medicine!'
he goes further but you have to read his book to get all that other good stuff. he has been challenged by the primary mouthpeices of the big pharma, the FDA and the FTC. this is good copy KT does, very good copy.

as the 'dark side gets flushed out' there will be fireworks, count on that.

KT's first main book on the subject is here
http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Cures-The ... 296&sr=8-4

part of what he says is that natural and safe cures exist for every one of these maladies. and the amazing thing he points out is how these natural remedies are non patentable, they are open source (many have been around since the dawn of time, really) hence they deliver 'no profits' for these corporations. therefore it is in the self interests of these corporations to do what they can to squash these simple, good, and natural cures, and to even squash the very knowledge of them. strong stuff.

do these 'big pharma' and similar corps have the financial resources to wage this kind of 'war'? you bet they do. do they fight dirty? just listen to KT to get a glimpse of it. they fight very dirty, and they lobby, and they own the senators and c-men, and they own the FDA and they own and manage the FTC, by the looks of it, and by the demonstrated experience.

I think everyone who thinks should RUN to the store or library and get kevin's book and fast. it will change the way you view all the stuff you've been programmed to believe.

and definitely, this is exactly what I had in mind by starting a thread called 'esoteric finance'. it has to be esoteric - because the mainstream business model is fundamentally - structurally - flawed. it's for a later post to devise particular remedies, it's for this one to discover/ admit to/ those essential structural flaws.

here are main pts. made by KT.

Quote:
You don’t need drugs or surgery to be healthy. There are all-natural remedies to treat, prevent, and cure virtually every disease and illness. There are companies, industries and government agencies that are spending billions of dollars to hide and suppress these natural cures so that we don’t know about them.

Quote:
We need to choose the opinions that make the best sense to us. Natural therapies can work better and faster than drugs or surgery. They have a higher success rate and have no adverse side effects, compared to drugs and surgery.

Quote:
There are all-natural cures for virtually all disease and illness, but they are being suppressed and hidden from us by the pharmaceutical industry, FDA, and FTC, etc. The motive is money and power. ... There is no financial incentive to prevent or cure disease. The entire healthcare industry is driven to make money. ...
Healthcare is one of the most profitable industries in the world, and as long as people are sick, people in this industry are making billions of dollars in profits. Therefore, there is no incentive for curing disease because "they" would all be out of business.
