National Academy of Sciences President: Earth is Warming
WASHINGTON, DC, July 25, 2005 (ENS) - At two Senate committee hearings on Thursday, the president of the National Academy of Sciences warned lawmakers that global climate change is already occurring.

Summarizing the reports of scientists, engineers, and public health officials who provide consensus advice to the nation on scientific and technical questions, Ralph Cicerone, Ph.D. said simply, "The Earth is warming."

"Weather station records and ship-based observations indicate that global mean surface air temperature increased about 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit (0.4 degrees C) since the early 1970s," he said.

"Although the magnitude of warming varies locally, the warming trend is spatially widespread and is consistent with an array of other evidence," Cicerone said, "including melting glaciers and ice caps, sea level rise, extended growing seasons, and changes in the geographical distributions of plant and animal species."

The ocean, which represents the largest reservoir of heat in the climate system, said Cicerone, has warmed by about 0.12 degrees F (0.06 degrees C) averaged over the layer extending from the surface down to 750 feet, since 1993.

Holding human activity responsible for the warming trend, Cicerone said, "Recent studies have shown that the observed heat storage in the oceans is consistent with expected impacts of a human-enhanced greenhouse effect."

Laboratory measurements of gases trapped in dated ice cores, he said, have shown that for hundreds of thousands of years, changes in temperature have closely tracked atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.

"Burning fossil fuel for energy, industrial processes, and transportation releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is now at its highest level in 400,000 years and continues to rise," Cicerone told the lawmakers.

"Nearly all climate scientists today believe that much of Earth’s current warming has been caused by increases in the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, mostly from the burning of fossil fuels," he said.

The degree of confidence in this conclusion is higher today than it was 10, or even 5 years ago, but uncertainties remain, said Cicerone, citing the Academies´ 2001 report, which states, “the changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities, but we cannot rule out that some significant part of these changes is also a reflection of natural variability.”

It is important to recognize however, that while future climate change and its impacts are inherently uncertain, they are far from unknown.

The combined effects of ice melting and sea water expansion from ocean warming will likely cause the global average sea-level to rise by between 0.1 and 0.9 meters between 1990 and 2100.

In colder climates, such warming could bring longer growing seasons and less severe winters.

Those in coastal communities, many in developing nations, will experience increased flooding due to sea level rise and are likely to experience more severe storms and surges. In the Arctic regions, where temperatures have risen more than the global average, the landscape and ecosystems are being altered rapidly.

More research is urgently required, Cicerone said.

"Although the scientific understanding of climate change has advanced significantly in the last several decades, there are still many unanswered questions," he said. "Society faces increasing pressure to decide how best to respond to climate change and associated global changes, and applied research in direct support of decision making is needed."

Cicerone views the task of mitigating and preparing for the impacts of climate change as one that will require worldwide collaborative inputs from natural scientists, engineers, social scientists, medical scientists, those in government at all levels, business leaders and economists.

July 29, 2005 Cause of three oil well explosions unknown (California)

By JIM HARDIN

Three vehicles were destroyed, but no one was injured, when a series of explosions and a fire occurred Thursday at an oil well site north of Longview.

Jimmy Purcell, an investigator for the Longview Fire Department, said four employees of East Texas Oil Rig apparently scattered when the first explosion occurred about noon at the well site, about three miles north of Longview off FM 1845. A fire after the second explosion sent flames 20 to 30 feet into the sky, Purcell said.

He said a third explosion about 45 minutes later probably was a tire or fuel tank.

The cause of the explosions was not known immediately. Purcell said Gregg County Fire Marshal Chad Walls and well owner Mike Chandler would meet later to determine what caused the explosions.

Scientists Sound Alarm on Arctic Ice Cap

CBC
August 1, 2005

Satellite data for the month of June show Arctic sea ice has shrunk to a record low, raising concerns about climate change, coastal erosion, and changes to wildlife patterns.

The National Snow and Ice Data Centre in the United States uses remote sensing imagery to survey ice cover at both poles.

The centre says 2002 was a record low year for sea ice cover in the Arctic, since satellite observations began in 1979.

There´s evidence that may have been the lowest coverage in a century.

Now scientists fear this year could be worse. June readings indicate the ice is at its lowest limit ever for that time of year.

"It actually melted back farther than normal pretty much everywhere around the Arctic," says Walt Meier of the National Snow and Ice Data Centre in the U.S.

"Where it´s been retreating the most has been north of Alaska and north of eastern Siberia."

Meier says the amount of ice that covered the Arctic Ocean in the month of June this year shrunk by a record six per cent below the average rate for the month.

FROM OCT. 28, 2003: Photos confirm Arctic melting, say researchers
Meier says circulation patterns are bringing more storms and warmer air from the South into the region, and that´s helping to break up the ice.

"June is really the first big month of melt in the central Arctic Ocean and so it´s an indication that the melt is progressing faster than normal," he says. "And when you start melting the ice you´re leaving the open ocean there which absorbs much more solar energy and so it tends to heat up even more."

Less sea ice means more moisture in the air and more rain.

It also leads to an increase in coastal erosion since the ice isn´t there to buffer the shoreline from waves.

Meier says the ice has retreated almost everywhere in the Arctic except for a small area in the East Greenland Sea.

National Snow and Ice Data Centre: Home Page
Dr. Andrew Derocher, a polar bear biologist at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, says less sea ice could have other impacts on northerners.

It could shorten the feeding time for polar bears and bring more of them into the communities.

"It may mean that they´re going to have to be particularly careful and on the lookout for more bears than they might normally find in some of the areas where they´re camping during the summer until the ice comes back," he says.

INDEPTH: Climate Change
The National Snow and Ice Data Centre says Arctic sea ice usually recovers in the winter time.

But researchers have noticed ice has begun to decline in that season as well.

Now some scientists are wondering if the melting of the sea ice has already gone beyond a critical threshold from which it can´t recover.

I find this hard to believe...but with CODEX happening (making Vitimins illegal) I can believe almost anything...

It is rummored that Monsanto is now trying to make "hierloom seeds" illegal to sell... as you may know, seeds from hybred plants do not reproduce...so you have to buy new plants every year and can not save the seeds for planting the next year.... Hierloom seeds...are viable...and will produce plants that have viable seeds... and can be purchased at these two websites...

Time to stock up before tshtf.

Europe is free from Monsanto..
And will stay that way.
The French and the Dutch voted NO to the EU constitution
( because it was a referendum and NOT a parliament descision)
and that will do for at least a few years.

It is a choice...so choose.

as a nation, a people, a mentality.
As for the Codex Alimentarius...I know how to feed myself ..I am a homeopath and herbalist so...well...maybe it is time for individuals to take responsability for their own health and food..

[BREAKING] IRAN THREATENS TO STOP OIL EXPORT

unfortunately only a dutch link, couldnt find link in english

Iran dreigt met stopzetting olie-export

Uitgegeven: 13 augustus 2005 12:06

Iran threatens oil with stopper arrangement-export

Spent: 13 August 2005 12:06 Recently changed: 13 August 2005 12:07 TEHERAN - De Iraanse parliamentary energy commission has warned that the oil can be used as a political weapon against possible sanctions. The country would be able to react with that to international punishment measures because of the core program of the country, reported the Iraanse press desk Mehr Saturday.

(my comment)
It already looks like Oil will break $70 per barrel by Monday , and that will add 30 cents to each gallon of gas. If Iran actually turned off the tap the price per barrel would easily exceed $100.

and I am sure China would only be too happy to buy their oil....

this perspective from "safe and sound"....on glp
The Bush administration has busied itself with two areas of concern in terms of the great chess game: South America and the Middle East. Both are about resources, chiefly energy.

The global conflict of which you speak is already in its incipient warm phase. It will become "hot" the moment China sees the ratio of her :energy consumption~economic growth: tip away from profitable sustainability to one of economic dependence. Recently she revaluated the yuan, which was ostensibly welcomed by Bush, and she will continue to offload dollar reserves in favor of the euro and the Swiss franc.

The flashpoint is not so much Iran (although a US-Israeli attack would devastate the international economy), but Saudi Arabia. Bush will not attack Iran, because that nation not only has nuclear weaponry pointed at Tel Aviv, but also holds a large number of legally and internationally recognized binding contracts with both Russia and China that must be honored.

An attack on Iran would mean WW3 within weeks, if not days. The Chinese and the Russians will not sit back and do nothing, as was very largely the case with Iraq. They simply have too much to lose in a very real existential sense. There will be war and it will be a nuclear war.

Bush knows this. However, although S.A. is a major energy supplier to both Russia and China, the diplomatic and political situation is very different. America will soon be INVITED to honor its existing military treaty with the oil-rich kingdom on the pretext that the (soon-coming) "terrorist" assaults on NYC have destabilized its ability to govern itself securely.

It’s going to be a classic piece of political chess playing. The Bush administration not only gets to put America on a fascist-style totalitarian war footing, it also gets to grab Saudi Arabia and everything under it. For keeps.

Then Iran. Maybe.
While You Were Sleeping: The Hemp Bill
You may be forgiven for missing it, but several weeks ago, amid the hubbub of a Supreme Court nomination, a White House scandal, corporate welfare in the form of energy and transportation bills, and more terrorist uprisings than one cares for during the slow summer season, an historic bill was introduced: H.R. 3037, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2005.

This legislation -- sponsored by Reps. Sam Farr (D-CA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Jim McDermott (D-WA), George Miller (D-CA), Ron Paul (R-TX) (yes, that´s a Texas Republican on the docket), and Pete Stark (D-CA) -- is the first bill ever to be introduced in Congress to repeal the federal ban on the cultivation of industrial hemp as a commercial crop.

If passed, H.R. 3037 would allow states the legal authority to license and regulate hemp cultivation without conflicting with federal law. So far, several states have passed legislation authorizing industrial hemp cultivation for research and commercial purposes only. But farmers in these states can´t legally grow hemp without federal permission to do so. The House bill -- assuming it is passed by the House and Senate and signed by you-know-who -- would remove this federal hurdle by granting states "exclusive authority" to regulate the growing and processing of industrial hemp.

Environmentalists have long praised hemp -- not for what you´re thinking, but for its environmental benefits. The widespread use of industrial hemp, they say, could result in numerous environmental benefits, including less reliance on fossil fuels, especially from foreign sources; more efficient use of energy; fewer greenhouse gas emissions; forest conservation; agricultural pesticide use reduction; dioxin and other pollution reduction; and landfill use reduction. Hemp is superior to many other plants for many uses, from cosmetics to clothing to carpet.

According to conservation writer Andy Kerr:

Hemp, because of its very long fibers, rapid growth, and the versatile oil from seed, can be manufactured into many products. It can competitively -- both economically and technically -- replace industrial feedstocks which are inherently polluting and unsustainable. Hemp fiber can be used to make bio-based plastics and construction materials. The long fibers of hemp can be used in making composite plastics which, while not as strong as fiberglass, is strong enough for many applications. There are also worker safety benefits, it´s recyclable and is priced lower than glass.
Currently, the U.S. is the only developed nation that fails to cultivate industrial hemp as an economic crop, according to a 2005 Congressional Research Service report (Download in PDF). The U.K. lifted its ban in 1993 and Germany followed suit in 1996. To help reestablish a hemp industry, the European Union instituted a subsidy program in the 1990s for hemp fiber production.

And these and other countries are eating our hemp lunch! For example, consider a collaborative effort of the National Research Council of Canada and Hemptown Clothing, Inc., to develop a new enzyme technology to produce a softer and whiter hemp fabric, among other things. A classic public sector-private sector partnership -- the type that created the Internet, Velcro, and so many other wonders of our modern world.

But not in the U.S. At least not until H.R. 3037 becomes law.

"It is unfortunate that the federal government has stood in the way of American farmers, including many who are struggling to make ends meet, competing in the global industrial hemp market," said Rep. Paul, the Texan legislator who´s been described as "the libertarian-leaning congressman from East Texas" and who is the bill´s chief sponsor. "Indeed the founders of our nation, some of whom grew hemp, surely would find that federal restrictions on farmers growing a safe and profitable crop on their own land are inconsistent with the constitutional guarantee of a limited, restrained federal government."

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Say What -
Israeli Television?!
By Ted Lang
8-16-5

Now look - I´ll admit to not ever having been a "professional" journalist or reporter, know what I mean? I´m not a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, nor am I in the running for replacing Ted Koppel anytime soon. Sure, I´ve written columns for my town and county newspaper, but when I offered an 800-word essay on the Downing Street Memo to the number one newspaper in New Jersey, a Zionist venture, I was summarily turned down. Bush´s loyalty to Israel knows no bounds, so the Zionist press is not about to endanger Israel´s number one military and funding asset.

I was real shaky writing about what seemed to be bogus numbers coming from the Pentagon relative to the real number of our war dead resulting from Bush´s personal vendetta against Saddam and Iraq; fortunately, I had an out: two separate sources for the information. Two is the magic number when it comes to sources - reporters [which I am not] should always back up their information with at least two independent sources before they write a news story.

Another former fellow Republican, Paul Craig Roberts, who has also been progressively losing it with the criminal Bush administration, has himself, just like me, gone completely "over the top" with these war-mongering criminal bastards. I was shocked at the emotion in Roberts´ latest piece. But let´s face it - if Cindy Sheehan and Patrick Fitzgerald don´t get to these dangerous criminals soon, it will indeed be the scenario painted by Roberts: World War III!

Inadvertently, MSM trashers and boneheads Limbaugh and O´Reilly have done their country a great service due to their unswerving loyalty to the Gangsters of Politics. Instead of loyalty to America´s founding, historically and lawfully conveyed in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the latter´s Bill of Rights, these dumbos, devoid of any and all gray matter, have given Cindy Sheehan precisely the public exposure she needed to say what the American people most needed to hear: "You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you´ll stop the terrorism." Now isn´t that amazing - one ordinary citizen, a non-politician, able to bring peace to the world via one simple sentence!

Then this brilliant, courageous woman tells US how to grab our corrupt, mass-murdering police state by the throat, and strangle it to death - a tax strike! If only Americans could be so organized to jointly boycott Bush and the heavily-armed gangsters of the IRS! Turn off the funding source for Israel and Israel´s Jewish Pentagon, and perhaps then, world peace!

No longer a "Dittohead" or Rush Limbaugh fan for at least three years, I continue to enjoy this simpleton´s assessment which offers that those who oppose Bush´s international terrorism are "liberals" and lefties." Really? Roberts and I are "lefties?" I don´t think so, but whatever floats this noxious and obnoxious gas bag´s drug-inspired hallucinations is A-OK with me!

Not only did Roberts mention Bush´s cozy chat via satellite with an Israeli TV reporter for Israeli television originating from Bush´s Crawford, Texas ranch, but now Yahoo News confirms it: Bush is now a star on Israeli Television! Was this yet another Jeff Gannon clone, or a legitimate Israeli reporter? Poor Helen Thomas, the grand dame of American journalism inside the beltway; she is now relegated to the back row at Bush "press conferences" with the still-wet-behind-the-ears cub reporters. And poor Judith Miller is rotting in jail for Bush, Cheney and Rove´s crimes against the CIA in violation of our national security laws. Israeli reporter?

That´s right folks; while he has time to ride his bicycle like a good little boy, and he has time to interview with Israeli reporters right from his home, Bush has absolutely no time to meet with Cindy Sheehan! When queried on this, Rush Limbaugh´s favorite president had this to say: "I think it´s also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life." A "balanced life," huh? Well, kind of - at least this time he didn´t fall off his stupid bicycle!

Since Bush likes to ride bicycles and stay in shape, and lie quite naturally while stumbling over his words giving the appearance of the common man saddled with a great burden, this appeal to the simple-minded masses is probably just what´s needed for Israeli television. Think of Bush in a starring role; perhaps, "CSI -Tel-Aviv!" Or how about an Israeli version of "Jeopardy"? No? I´ve got it... Israel needs: "The Mid East Wing"

apparently this little "chat session" has been going on for a week now...on a daily basis...and this is the first I ever heard of it... here is the first interview...

Interview of President Bush by Yaron Deckel, Israeli Television Channel 1

To: National Desk

Contact: White House, Office of the Press Secretary, 202-456-2580

CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug. 12 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The following text is of an interview of President Bush by Yaron Deckel, Israeli Television Channel 1.

Bush Ranch, August 11, 2005

7:17 A.M. CDT

Q Mr. President, thank you very much for the first interview granted to Israeli TV and for hosting us in your beautiful ranch in Texas.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, welcome, thanks for coming. It´s an honor to have you here and it´s an honor to speak on Israeli TV.

Q I understand why you like this place better than the White House.

We are on the eve of the disengagement and you have expressed your full support in disengagement, trying to help Prime Minister Sharon in his struggle. And I would like to ask why is it so important to you, Mr. President?

THE PRESIDENT: First of all, let me speak about my relationship with Prime Minister Sharon, if you don´t mind. We´ve grown close, and one of the reasons why is I appreciate a person who when he says something, means it. And I hope he appreciates that about me. In other words, I said early on we´re going to join in fighting terror so that Israel could be secure and America secure and other free nations secure.

Secondly -- and I have, and he knows I keep my word and I know he keeps his word. Secondly, what I appreciate is somebody who thinks boldly for peace. And Ariel Sharon came to the White House and said we´re going to disengage from the Gaza. And I was struck by what a bold decision that was. And the disengagement is, I think, a part of making Israel more secure and peaceful and I agree with the Prime Minister.

It´s important because the United States is a strong ally of Israel and, therefore, if you´re a strong ally, you want there to be peace for your ally.

Q You know, the main concern of Israel is that the disengagement might lead not to more security, but, on the contrary, to more violence. Do you understand the concerns?

THE PRESIDENT: Oh, absolutely, I understand. And I can understand why people think this decision is one that will create a vacuum into which terrorism will flow. I happen to disagree. I think this will create an opportunity for democracy to emerge. And democracies are peaceful. And, therefore, it´s very important for the United States, as an active participant in this process, to encourage the formation of security forces that will defeat terror, just like the road map calls for -- these are Palestinian security forces -- and to encourage the Palestinians to develop a peaceful state.

Q You had announced that you will support the disengagement by some aid the administration will provide Israel to develop the northern and southern -- the Galilee and the Negev.

THE PRESIDENT: Right.

Q Has any decision been made regarding this issue?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, first of all, I did say when the Prime Minister was here that the Negev and Galilee present great opportunities for economic development. And we understand that. So I´m going to send teams over to assess the opportunities available for the United States to help Israel. And they´ll report back to me. But we have made no focus yet on specific budget items.

Q Mr. President, are you troubled by the fierce opposition Prime Minister Sharon, your partner, is facing in his own camp, in the Likud Party? According to the polls, he might lose because of the disengagement.

THE PRESIDENT: First of all, on democracy there´s going to be dissent. And, secondly, the Prime Minister has made a very strong, bold decision. And I can understand why people are debating the issue. But I´m confident he´s made the right decision. And I can also assure the Israeli people the decision he made has brought the United States and Israel even closer together.

Q Have you any opinion about Mr. Netanyahu, who stands to succeed him and now is leading the opposition?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I met Bibi Netanyahu -- of course, he´s well known in the United States -- he´s going to make the decision he thinks is necessary for Israel´s good, and there´s just a disagreement between two friends. But I believe the decision that Prime Minister Sharon has made and is going to follow through on will be good for Israel.

Q And why are you so sure it´s going to lead to more security?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, it´s an opportunity -- first of all, the previous system wasn´t working. I mean, there was an intifada, there was death, there was killing. And if you notice, there´s been a calm in attacks. One attack is too many, but there´s been fewer attacks. And I think in the long run, two states living side-by-side in peace is the ultimate solution for Israeli´s security.

In the meantime, we´ve got to work to dismantle terrorist organizations and that´s precisely what the road map calls for.

Q How urgent is it that Mr. Abbas take more actions against terrorism? How urgent is it? Because you said that it´s not enough, what they have done so far.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I think -- and I´ve told that to the Prime Minister Abbas -- or President Abbas. He´s a strong -- he strongly understands the need to dismantle terrorists. He knows that a democracy can´t exist so long as you´ve got armed groups willing to take law in their own hands. And he´s committed to a democratic state. And we´ve got work to do with him. And that´s why we´ve got a general on the ground there that´s helping to try train and coordinate Palestinian forces to fight off the terrorists who would want to stop the process for peace.

Q But would you accept a permanent cease-fire with the Hamas movement, for instance?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, you know, Hamas is on the terrorist group.

Q He made a cease-fire with them.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, he´s elected by the Palestinians. I am not. On the other hand, I can express my opinions to him, which I have. And I don´t believe you can have a peaceful, democratic state with armed groups willing to take the law in their own hands.

Q As a believer, Mr. President, what do you say to Jewish believers who think that God sent them to settle in the biblical Israel and they will not obey any decision of elected government?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, you know, there are admonitions in the Bible that does talk about the role of government relative to man. And Israel is a democracy and democracies are able to express the will of the people. The Prime Minister is expressing what he thinks is in the best interests of Israel and the people will decide, ultimately, whether or not that decision makes sense.

Q You know, things in the Middle East constantly change. And nobody predicted the U.S. will start dialogue with the PLO in the ´80s, and then Prime Minister -- late Prime Minister Rabin signing an accord with Yasser Arafat. Do you see any similar development with the Hamas in the future?

THE PRESIDENT: Here´s what I see. I see relations with a peaceful Palestinian state that is run by -- that is founded on democratic institutions. That´s what I believe can happen -- and should happen. I mean, in order to ultimately defeat terror -- whether it be in Palestinian territories or Iraq or Iran -- there must be open, transparent societies based upon rule of law.

Q Your time frame was a Palestinian state in 2005. Would you like to update the time frame, Mr. President?

THE PRESIDENT: I think Israel -- the people of Israel must understand that now is an opportunity for the Palestinians to show leadership and self-government in Gaza. And that´s why my focus is intensely upon Gaza. We hope that the disengagement goes well. And we understand that once Israel has withdrawn, it´s now up to the Palestinians to show the world that they can self-govern in a peaceful way.

Q You said that once the disengagement is carried out, both sides will help together to the road map to meet their obligations. And Prime Minister Sharon vowed that there will be no political progress until the Palestinians will act forcefully against terrorism. Do you share this view with him?

THE PRESIDENT: Here´s the way I view it. One, I think that the road map does call for dismantling terrorist organizations. And, secondly, I think -- I know that the disengagement from Gaza presents an opportunity for a Palestinian state which is peaceful to begin to grow. In other words, it goes to show that -- that there´s a chance to show the Israelis and the Palestinians that there´s a better life ahead. And in order to do that in Gaza -- in Gaza --

Q So the burden is upon the Palestinians once the disengagement is over?

THE PRESIDENT: I think the burden is on -- everybody has got obligations. You know, obviously, the peaceful withdrawal by Israelis from the Gaza is part of the burden. The terrorists -- dismantling terrorist organizations is part of the burden. I think the --

Q Should it be the first -- the first step before anything other happens?

THE PRESIDENT: Gaza?

Q The dismantling of the terrorist organizations?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I think that´s a part of a process. You see, dismantling a terrorist organization is not only taking arms and isolating terrorists, but it´s also showing the Palestinians and the Israelis that a peaceful state can emerge. This is what the opportunity is. And that´s why I think that Prime Minister Sharon´s decision was so bold.

But we have a -- let me finish the obligations. Israelis have obligations, the Palestinians have obligations. The United States has an obligation. That´s why Mr. Wolfensohn and our general on the ground is there, to help establish the institutions necessary for a peaceful state to emerge. Arab nations have got obligations now -- one, to not incite violence. Two, to help isolate and bring to justice terrorists. And, three, to provide funds to help these -- the Gaza to become a place of prosperity and peace.

Q You mentioned Iran and I wonder, Mr. President, how imminently is the Iranian threat? There was a release lately of the U.S. intelligence that they won´t have any capability in the next 10 years. Is this your latest information, Mr. President?

THE PRESIDENT: My latest information is that the Iranians refuse to comply with the demands of the free world, which is: do not in any way, shape or form have a program that could yield to a nuclear weapon. And the United States and Israel are united in our objective to make sure that Iran does not have a weapon. And in this particular instance, the EU 3 -- Britain, France and Germany -- have taken the lead, been helping to send the message, a unified message to the Iranians.

Look, in all these instances we want diplomacy to work. And so we´re working feverishly on the diplomatic route. And, you know, we´ll see if we´re successful or not. As you know, I´m --

Q And if not?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, all options are on the table.

Q Including use of force?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, you know, as I say, all options are on the table. The use of force is the last option for any President. You know, we´ve used force in the recent past to secure our country. It´s a difficult -- it´s difficult for the Commander-in-Chief to put kids in harm´s way. Nevertheless, I have been willing to do so as a last resort in order to secure the country and to provide the opportunity for people to live in free societies.

Q I won´t be finishing this interview without asking you about your decision in Iraq. Knowing what you know today, you made the right decision, Mr. President?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes. I did. The world is safer without Saddam Hussein in power.

Q Is it?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes. Absolutely. Saddam Hussein -- you know, we made the decision on a lot of factors. One factor, of course, is that the world thought he had weapons of mass destruction -- not just the United States, but the entire world. I went to the United Nations. The United Nations unanimously passed a resolution that said to Saddam Hussein: disarm or face serious consequences. Once again, he defied the world.

But we also made the case that Saddam Hussein had terrorist ties. Abu Nidal was in Iraq. Zarqawi, the man who´s inflicting so much murder and chaos on innocent Iraqis, was in Iraq. Saddam Hussein was an enemy of the United States -- enemy of a lot of countries. And there´s no doubt in my mind that we´re safer as a result of him not being in power. And there´s no doubt in my mind that a democratic Iraq will be a part of a change in the broader Middle East that will lay the foundations for peace.

You know, a lot of the world says, well, unless you are a certain type of person you can´t live in a free society. I strongly disagree with that. I believe that imbedded into everybody´s soul is the desire to live in freedom. That´s what I believe, that there is an Almighty and the Almighty plants a sense of being free. Therefore, if given a chance, people will live in a free society -- and free societies are peaceful societies.

Q Any plans to visit in the state of Israel? I know you were there as a governor of Texas.

THE PRESIDENT: I was. (Laughter.)

Q What mostly impressed you in the Holy Land?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, first of all, I´ll never forget waking up in the hotel and seeing this golden shine on the Old City. It was just -- and I remember waking up Laura, I said, "Laura, you´re not going to believe -- you´re not going to believe this fantastic sight."

The other thing, of course, that sticks in my mind was the helicopter tour I took of the West Bank -- and my guide was Ariel Sharon. It was one of the great ironies of all time. I was a governor, he was in the cabinet. And he said, "Would you like to take a helicopter ride?" to me. Governor Cellucci, who went on to be the ambassador to Canada, and Governor Leavitt, who is now in my Cabinet, and Governor Racicot, the four of us. We said, sure, and we got in the chopper and the tour guide was Ariel Sharon as we choppered all throughout the West Bank.

Q Will you visit again?

THE PRESIDENT: I´d love to visit again sometime.

Q In your term?

THE PRESIDENT: I hope so. And I hope to visit and proclaim success as a result of a bold decision that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has made, and I think I´ll be able to do that.

Q Mr. President, I do thank you very much for this interview and for your time.

THE PRESIDENT: Thanks for coming.

lifted this from GLP... heads up... the super markets will be out of food in three days....
TRUCKERS TO STRIKE on SEPT 7TH

Word around the trucking lanes lately is that there will be a major trucking shut down across the USA on Sept 7th.

Many plan on parking their trucks in front of fuel pumps in rows of them to stop any trucks from fueling, and blocking the exits/entrances to all truck stops across the USA.

They will only allow people with empty trucks to leave truck stops.

This is planned to go on for 3 days pretty much crippling the country.

This is true people. They´ve tried this many times before and usually just creates traffic jams. But this time it seems that its going to be pretty big, and if they block fueling stations, trucks will be forced to shut down. Everything from food, to medicine to parts for major manufacturing will be shut down for days.

This will cost the country billions per day.

Heard it on the CB all week. Its coming....
United States Positions Tens of Thousands of Foreign Troops Throughout America, Cancels All Military Leaves and Ousts Another Top General

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Russian Subscribers

Reports circulating among Russian Intelligence Analysts today are showing disturbing signs of an impending massive increase in US Military Manpower geared towards a rapid expansion of their current Global War for total dominance of all of the earth’s natural resources. Towards that end the Military Leaders of the United States have forced out yet another of their Top Generals siding with their Coup Forces and as we can read as reported by the Seattle Post News Service in their article titled "General from area retires" and which says;

“Rodney Kobayashi, one of the highest ranking "civilian-soldiers" in the Army, retired Sunday as a two-star general and commander of the 91st Division in a ceremony at Fort Lewis. Kobayashi will be returning full time to his civilian life as a regional manager for the Internal Revenue Service, based in Seattle. He lives in Sammamish. The 91st Division is based in Dublin, Calif. Kobayashi previously held assistant command of the 104th Division in Vancouver, Wash.”

Major General Kobayashi joins his ousted counterpart General Kevin P. Byrnes (and who we had reported upon in our August 9th report titled "United States Military Forces Begin Coup, Top US General Arrested By Anti-Coup Factions, Russian and Chinese Military Forces Go To High Alert" ) but chose a forced retirement instead of immediate arrest and public humiliation according to Russian Intelligence Analysts.

Of noted significance to these two US Army Generals is that between the two of them they controlled the entire training apparatus for the US Army, National Guard and Reserve Forces, with Major General Kobayashi being the commander of the 91st Division which is tasked with, “The 91st Division (Training Support) is organized and staffed to plan, conduct and evaluate training exercises (including small unit collective training) for the Army National Guard, Army Reserve Combat Support and Combat Service Support Units at the squad, platoon/section, and company/battery levels and above. Upon mobilization, the 91st Division will assist in the validation of Reserve and Army National Guard units in the preparation for deployment.” , and General Byrnes having headed the US Armies TRACDOC command which is tasked with "TRADOC recruits, trains and educates the Army’s Soldiers; develops leaders; supports training in units; develops doctrine; establishes standards; and builds the future Army."

According to these reports the internal rebellion of not only these two Generals, but ‘many more’, were based upon the massive recruitment of foreign mercenaries into the US Armed Forces and the stationing of them at ‘strategic points’ throughout the United States and training them almost exclusively for ‘riot and crowd control’ purposes. To date these foreign mercenary soldiers stationed throughout America number in the tens of thousands, and as we can read as reported American Strategy World News Service in their article titled "U.S. Army Encounters Strange Recruiting Patterns" and which says;

"And then there are the foreigners. About 35,000 non-citizens are currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, while another 12,000 serve in the Reserve Components. The navy has the largest proportion of non-citizens on active duty, almost 16,000, nearly half the total. The Marine Corps has about 6,500, the Army about 5,000, and the Air force about 3,000."

The ‘umbrella’ US Military organization to which these foreign mercenary soldiers have been assigned is the newly established NORTHCOM which has been established to ‘protect’ the Continental United States and has led to much fear among its citizens, and as we can read as reported by the Online Journal News Service in their article titled "How about that Pentagon plan for martial law?" and which says;

"Of course, few are putting it that way. But in an August 8, 2005, Washington Post article, its author Bradley Graham headlined it this way: "War Plans Drafted To Counter Terror Attacks in U.S.—Domestic Effort is Big Shift for Military." What a flair for understatement. Datelined from Colorado Springs, the Evangelical Christian, Northern Command headquarters, Graham writes, "The U.S. Military has devised its first-ever war plans for guarding against and responding to terrorist attacks in the United States, envisioning 15 potential crisis scenarios and anticipating several simultaneous strikes around the country, according to officers who drafted the plans." Well thanks, fellas, for the effort, but it´s been nearly four years since 9/11.

Nevertheless, "the classified plans . . . outline a variety of possible roles for quick-reaction forces estimated at as many as 3,000 ground troops per attack, a number that could easily grow depending on the extent of the damage and the abilities of civilian response teams." Huh? When, where, who? And "the possible scenarios range from ´low end,´ relatively modest crowd-control missions to ´high-end,´ full-scale [and/or multiple] disaster management after catastrophic attacks such as the release of a deadly biological agent or the explosion of a radiological device, several officers said." Translated into everyday English, if there´s a real or, dare I say, "false flag" op/disaster in the A (atomic), B (biological) or C (chemical) areas, a la 9/11, or like the Maryland-based, government "anthrax" attack, we could be in a national state of martial law, up to our ears."

To the exact timetable established for the using of these foreign mercenary troops upon the American peoples it is not known, but according to some reports it may not be to far off in the future, and as we can see evidenced by today’s article being reported by the Venezuela News Service titled "All US military leave has been cancelled ... something big is in the works!" and which says, "All military leaves for September and October have been cancelled ... something big is in the works ... there is a buildup of material and equipment ... personnel at draft board offices are waiting for the word to activate."

To which direction the United States Military Leaders will strike next is not to our knowing, other than their military forces are poised to strike against multiple countries including, Iran, Ecuador, Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Israel, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Russia itself, the common denominator being their securing for themselves control over the worlds oil supplies.

In countering the ambitions of these American Military Leaders for total Global Domination, both Russian and Chinese Military Forces are continuing their unprecedented War Games currently underway as China rapidly seeks to forge a Global Defense Ring around the United States itself. Towards that end China has even approached Iran and begun defense talks, and as we can read as reported by the Bloomberg News Service in their article titled "Iran, China Eye Military Cooperation After Oil Deals" and which says;

"Iran received a military delegation from China, paving the way for cooperation in the defense field, Iran´s Mehr News agency reported, citing Brigadier General Nasser Mohammadi Far, the commander of the Iranian army´s ground forces. The Chinese delegation is in Iran for talks on ``developing military relations, deepening bilateral ties and paving the way for military cooperation,´´ the state-run Iranian news agency said. The press office of China´s Ministry of Defense in Beijing declined to comment on the delegation´s visit."

To this ‘Great Game’ currently being played upon the world’s stage, only the American peoples themselves seem not to know either the rules or this games consequence. For the outcome of this Great Game will determine who will survive and who will perish in this new century, but sadly not before millions, if not billions, of human being lose their lives.

To the American peoples there also remains the fact that many of them will be murdered from those they have most respected and depended upon to keep them secure, their Military Forces. How utterly shocked they will be therefore when in facing these foreign mercenaries, in their own cities, they will not be met with the faces of their friends and neighbors, but instead by ruthless paid mercenaries that not only do not know American laws and customs, they will not even care.

Among Americans registered to vote, 38% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 56% disapprove, and 36% approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 60% disapprove.

This is the second month in a row when improving economic ratings have not been matched by higher job approval ratings for Bush. A total of 24% of Americans now say their personal financial situations are getting better, up from 17% in July, and 27% say they believe that their personal financial situations will be better off a year from now, which is up from 21% in July.

I know, Iknow...this puts a serious dent in my credibility...but you know...there is some light in everything...and this Zeta PoV has Nancy with her own Blog web show and a huge following...of "alternative thinkers"...see what you can glean from this...

Q: I am concerned about all the reports about military coup happening. 4-Star General gets canned. Is there really a war going on behind the scenes between the Bush crowd and the powers that be? I am trying to figure out all the gossip about a military coup. Where are we headed? And what is behind the exorbitant crude oil prices? Any Zetas comments on this?

ZetaTalk: Decapitation Process
http://www.zetatalk.com/index/zeta236.htm

We stated when Bush stole the 2004 election (http://www.zetatalk.com/index/zeta170.htm) that the Puppet Master was furious, as he had wanted a respected Viet Nam vet, John Kerry, to bring a rebelling US military into line, a situation that certainly would not occur with Bush continuing in office. Why does the Puppet Master care? Because the US Military has and is being used to protect his assets and interests, at home and abroad. The massive US Military, equal in size to the COMBINED military of all other countries in the world, has bases everywhere, and the man with the gun gets cooperation with US interests abroad. Chosen as much for their weaknesses (http://www.zetatalk.com/index/zeta192.htm) as for any skill or political savvy they may posses, Puppets are expected to allow their strings to be pulled, once installed into office, but Bush and those around him had let the power of the US Military go to their heads. THEY would be king. THEY would commandeer all the oil fields (http://www.zetatalk.com/index/zeta207.htm) in the world, and control what they foresee as the prime commodity in the Aftertime, black gold.

Bush busting (http://www.zetatalk.com/index/zeta181.htm) promptly began, the first volley financial. Despite all lies to the contrary, the health of the US economy is plunging, more layoffs, more bankruptcies, overinflated and underfunded and UTTERLY dependent upon investors from abroad. What has the situation been since the 2004 election was stolen? Rising interest rates at the Federal Reserve, which the Puppet Master controls, while the US economy plunges. Logical only when one considers that the Puppet Master plans to decapitate the US bureaucracy, and plunging the US government into a financial crisis with a SUDDEN withdrawal of funds from the Fed and from countries abroad which he has great influence with, will be one weapon at his disposal. Bush, meanwhile, having formerly been an alcoholic, is now drunk on continued spending sprees, his foray into Iraq a hemorrhage he refuses to address. Weapon one – financial disaster, with the US Congress frantically looking to cut expenses in the face of the Bush Administration’s adamant insistence that their conquest of oil fields continue, and now into Iran.

The second Bush busting volley is unveiling political corruption within the Bush Administration. Shall we count the ways this has emerged? The Downing Street memo, demonstrating clearly that Bush lied to the public about his plans to invade Iraq; the Valerie Plame outing, which has Karl Rove and the office of **** Cheney front and center and is currently before a grand jury; war profiteering via Haliburton, with contracts skipping the bidding process and fraudulent invoices being rewarded with bonuses. Where this is not yet seen as removing Bush from office, it has an eroding effect on the Congress and the public. Little by little the fingers of loyalty weaken and let go. Where the public stance is loyalty to a President that had been sworn in, in front of a Congress that failed to challenge the 2004 election, the depth of this loyalty is now paper thin. Election fraud, via Diebolt voting machines that had votes for 1/3 of the nation recorded without a paper trail and the central tabulating machines admittedly editable from a laptop in a parking lot nearby – all ignored by the loyal Republican Congress. With the 2006 elections approaching in the Fall of 2005, should a Congressman worry? Weapon two – the changing face of Congress.

The third Bush busting volley is eroding public sentiment for what Bush had hoped would be a war time Presidency. What war? The one that was waged based on a lie? The one that was for ANY reason but to defend America from terrorism? The one that was to make America free from worry, a safer place? For public sentiment to erode, the media must cooperate, and anyone taking the pulse of the media lately must admit there has been a CHANGE. Look behind the newscasters to see the hand at the helm of the major media outlets. It is NOT Bush and company. Though they can suppress reports by asserting a national security rational, they cannot dictate the tenor and tone of the news. Where the Downing Street memo received little press, Karl Rove was dragged about on major media endlessly for his alleged role in the Plame outing. Public exposes are not OVER in this battle for the hearts and minds of the US public, as more are in the wings and awaiting their time. The public has already decided they no longer approve of their President, not for his performance in Iraq, nor on the economy, and there is little left except respect for the Office of President to shore him up. Weapon three – an angry public.

What is the synergy, during a decapitation process, between economic quagmires, Congressional alarm, public disgruntlement, and the Military balking? Each magnifies the other. A war effort that has strong public support does not get challenged by Congress, regardless of legalities. A President viewed as genuinely concerned about the public interests is forgiven economic quagmires by the public. And when the argument is that national security is at stake, the safety of the American public at issue, then the media hesitates to criticize the leadership. But when this leadership has been exposed as utterly lacking in integrity, out for self profit, and breaking both the intent and letter of the law with aplomb, what then? When Congress begins to vote against the Bush White House wishes, what then? When the public polls show the support for the President and his policies diving for the bottom, what then? A feeding frenzy begins. Where this has terrified some within the Bush White House, the prevailing mode has been stubborn refusal to change. This is not the resolve of strength, but the rigidity of the weak. This is the 2 year old, having a tantrum, insisting on his way.

Enter the role of the military. They were, of course, disappointed to have as their assigned Commander-in-Chief a man who avoided his duty during the Viet Nam war to the extent of being AWOL in the reserves. The truth of this was not lost on the military, which has its own information channels, but the military is restrained from speaking out against a sitting Commander-in-Chief, so the truth of this is lost on the public. They did, of course, advise against invading Iraq, and were bitter when their advise was not taken. Follow this with a disastrous Rumsfeld plan to rush to Baghdad, leaving the supply routes vulnerable, and you have the setting we see today in Iraq, endless battles and endless dead and maimed soldiers. Moral is far worse than during Viet Nam, a story not allowed to be told. Where the military is based on command and control hierarchy, in THEORY following the Commander-in-Chief , there is a second tradition – rebellion by hapless blundering. Prison torture, carried out by mercenaries reporting directly to Rumsfeld, is revealed by military photos. Oops. This goes beyond information leaks, it affects deployment and cooperation, and if blundering does not suffice, then refusal begins.

Bush may think that firing a top general will set an example to the rest, and stop what has become increasingly an open rebellion in the military, but the opposite will be the effect. For every head cut off, more will grow. Bush sees the grim military faces, forced to attend his frequent pep talks to the public using them as backdrops, and imagines this cooperation. Has he not noticed the smiles fading? The lack of applause, even on orders? The word gets down to the lower echelons, that the officers no longer consider Bush their commander, and rebellion is afoot. This flashes about on the Internet as rumors of a coup, but this is not the result. The result is increasing REFUSAL to follow direct orders. Up and down the line. Just how many court martials can the military entertain, simultaneously? Historically, when a military turns against a king, the king has lost his footing and is doomed. This is particularly so when the king foolishly starts attacking the military! But such is the arrogance of those in the White House at present, who think themselves impervious to corruption trials with an Attorney General long a close personal friend of Bush, and impervious to impeachment trials with a Republican House and Senate, and impervious to public and world opinion as the assignment of a hated UN envoy recently shows.

What next? A Shakespearean drama is about to unfold, with the synergy of undercutting of the Bush Administration creating a maelstrom under him that will astonish those who thought him strong. Bush busting, a decapitation of his INFLUENCE such that the US is no longer run from the White House, but is on auto-pilot according to law and conscience. Such is the Puppet Masters plan, and there has not been a battle instigated by this Puppet Master than he has lost. The outcome is certain.

Four-star general sacked [Aug 10] http://premium.cnn.com/2005/US/08/09/ge ... lieved.ap/
‘In an extraordinary move, the Army sacked a four-star general who was the subject of a Defense Department investigation into alleged sexual misconduct, an official said Tuesday. Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes, commander of Army Training and Doctrine Command, was approaching retirement when the decision to relieve him of duty was. Byrnes, 55, a Vietnam veteran, ranked third in seniority among the Army´s 11 four-star generals. In his position as commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Byrnes oversaw all Army training programs and the development of war-fighting guidelines. Among the four-star general or flag officers to have been relieved of command in recent years was Navy Adm. Richard C. Macke, sacked as commander of Pacific Command in 1995 for remarks he made about the case of U.S. Marines accused of raping a 12-year-old Japanese girl. Gen. Michael Dugan was fired as chief of staff of the Air Force in 1990 for comments to reporters about planning for the 1991 Gulf War.

California Earthquake Could Be the Next Katrina By Jia-Rui Chong and Hector Becerra Times Staff Writers
Thu Sep 8, 7:55 AM ET

U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones remembers attending an emergency training session in August 2001 with the Federal Emergency Management Agency that discussed the three most likely catastrophes to strike the United States.

First on the list was a terrorist attack in New York. Second was a super-strength hurricane hitting New Orleans. Third was a major earthquake on the San Andreas fault.

Now that the first two have come to pass, she and other earthquake experts are using the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as an opportunity to reassess how California would handle a major temblor.

Jones, scientist-in-charge for the geological survey´s Southern California Earthquake Hazards Team, and other experts generally agree that California has come a long way in the last two decades in seismic safety.

In Los Angeles, all but one of 8,700 unreinforced masonry buildings — considered the most likely to collapse in a major quake — have been retrofitted or demolished. The state spent billions after the 1994 Northridge quake to retrofit more than 2,100 freeway overpasses, reporting this week that only a handful remain unreinforced.

Despite these improvements, however, officials believe that a major temblor could cause the level of destruction and disruption seen over the last week on the Gulf Coast.

More than 900 hospital buildings that state officials have identified as needing either retrofitting or total replacement have yet to receive them, and the state recently agreed to five-year extensions to hospitals that can´t meet the 2008 deadline to make the fixes. More than 7,000 school buildings across the state would also be vulnerable during a huge temblor, a state study found, though there is no firm timetable for upgrading the structures.

And four Los Angeles Police Department facilities — including the Parker Center headquarters in downtown — worry officials, because they were built to primitive earthquake standards and might not survive a major temblor. Only two of the LAPD´s 19 stations meet the most rigorous quake-safe rules.

"We could be dealing with infrastructure issues a lot like New Orleans," Jones said. "Our natural gas passes through the Cajon Pass…. Water — three pipelines — cross the San Andreas fault in an area that is expected to go in an earthquake." Railway lines are also vulnerable, she said.

A catastrophic temblor at the right spot along the San Andreas could significantly reduce energy and water supplies — at least temporarily, she and others said. Researchers at the Southern California Earthquake Center said there is an 80% to 90% chance that a temblor of 7.0 or greater magnitude will strike Southern California before 2024.

"We aren´t anywhere close to where I wish we were" in terms of seismic safety, Jones said.

Seismologists are particularly concerned about a type of vulnerable building that has received far less attention than unreinforced masonry.

There are about 40,000 structures in California made from "non-ductile reinforced concrete," a rigid substance susceptible to cracking. This was a common construction ingredient for office buildings in the 1950s and ´60s, before the state instituted stricter standards. Few such structures have been seismically retrofitted, officials said.

Seismic safety advocates have also recently lost some major battles in Sacramento. The state rejected a proposal from the Seismic Safety Commission in the wake of the 2003 San Simeon earthquake to force owners of unreinforced masonry buildings to post warning signs. In that quake, two women died when the roof slid off of a two-story Paso Robles brick building where they worked.

Last week, the Legislature sent to the governor´s desk a bill that encourages local governments to develop retrofitting programs for "soft story" wood-frame apartment buildings.

There are an estimated 70,000 such structures in the state, and experts worry that they could sustain major quake damage, because they often have tuck-under parking and lack solid walls at their bases.

The danger of this kind of construction was illustrated in the 1994 collapse of the Northridge Meadows apartment complex, in which 16 residents were killed.

There are other potential safety gaps as well.

Although Los Angeles, Long Beach, Pasadena and several other cities have reinforced almost all their masonry buildings, about a third of such structures across the state remain unprotected, said Frank Turner, an engineer with the Seismic Safety Commission.

A state study published last year on hazard reduction paints a sobering picture of California´s earthquake danger. About 62% of the population lives in a zone of high earthquake danger, including 100% of the population of Ventura County, 99% of Los Angeles County and 92% of Riverside County.

Since 1971, there have been at least 13 earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or greater in the state, and research conducted after the 1989 Loma Prieta quake in the Bay Area found a 62% probability that at least one earthquake of magnitude 6.7 or more would strike the Bay Area before 2032.

"We´re pretty confident we have some of the best buildings in the world here, but … there are always going to be losses, because these are extraordinary events," Turner said.

Still, Southern California´s geography could help prevent a catastrophe on the scale of that in New Orleans.

Because the Los Angeles region is so much larger than the Louisiana city, it is difficult to conceive of a disaster — "short of an A-bomb" — that would blanket the whole city, let alone the whole county, in ruin, said Lee Sapaden, a spokesman for Los Angeles County´s Office of Emergency Management.

Earthquakes tend to do the most damage closest to the epicenters. The 1994 Northridge quake, for example, damaged a large swath of the San Fernando Valley as well as parts of Hollywood and the Westside. But areas farther to the east and south, such as Long Beach and Orange County, saw little damage.

A large quake in the Valley would probably still allow emergency supplies and rescuers to reach the area from other locations such as the San Gabriel Valley and South Bay, Sapaden said.

Emergency crews would have better mobility than those in New Orleans, he added, because even if freeways were wrecked, aid would probably be able to get through the vast majority of areas on surface streets. "Here in Southern California, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange and Santa Barbara counties would help us out, just like we would help them," he said.

One of the biggest concerns of seismic safety officials is the fate of hospitals.

The 1971 Sylmar earthquake pushed Olive View Medical Center a foot off its foundation, causing the first floor to collapse, killing three patients and a hospital worker. The 1994 Northridge quake knocked 23 hospitals temporarily out of service.

After that quake, the Legislature passed a law requiring that hospitals retrofit buildings to withstand a major temblor or replace them with new ones. About 78% of hospitals have at least one building deemed at risk, said Jan Emerson, spokeswoman for the California Hospital Assn.

But hospitals, many of which are fighting budget problems, have balked at the price tag — estimated at $24 billion for 2002-2030 — and in many cases have successfully pushed Sacramento to delay the retrofitting deadline. The state has already granted about 200 requests for extensions to make the necessary repairs by 2013, according to a state document.

Safety officials said more work is also needed at schools.

A 2002 state study found that more than 7,500 school buildings across California are expected to "perform poorly" in a major temblor.

The Los Angeles Unified School District has completed seismic upgrades to nearly 2,000 buildings, spending $222 million on the effort, according to Richard Luke, director of design for the district.

But the district has not finished upgrades on 600 portable buildings and will look at an additional 239 buildings identified by the Division of State Architect as possibly performing poorly during a major quake.

Jones of the geological survey and Turner of the Seismic Safety Commission believe that one worst-case scenario would involve a massive temblor on the San Andreas fault around where major utility lines run, possibly compromising water and power supplies.

"We should not be at all surprised if something similar to Hurricane Katrina mirrors itself in California," Turner said. "There have been lots of articles written about the failure of levees in the [Sacramento-San Joaquin] Delta, the loss of drinking water in California. This is just the tip of the iceberg."

About 60% of Southern California´s water is imported from outside the region in three major aqueducts that cross the San Andreas fault, making them particularly vulnerable to major earthquake damage.

One branch of the 444-mile California Aqueduct, which carries water from the delta, virtually sits on top of the fault for a few miles near Palmdale. A second aqueduct from the Colorado River crosses the fault near Beaumont. And the Los Angeles Aqueduct, which transports snowmelt from the eastern Sierra, runs across the San Andreas in a mountain tunnel between Lancaster and Santa Clarita.

Southern California water managers say they´ve made progress in recent years building local reserves they could turn to if they lost water from one or more of the transport systems.

With such efforts, "we feel even more confident we are able to provide sufficient water to sustain us during an earthquake," said Debra Man, chief operating officer of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the region´s main water wholesaler.

Jim McDaniels, chief operating officer for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power´s water system, said that if disaster struck, the DWP could double its groundwater pumping within the basin and draw from its four big local reservoirs.

Major gas lines also come into Southern California over the San Andreas at several points, including at Indio, Palmdale, the Cajon Pass and the Tejon Ranch. Still, officials at the Southern California Gas Co. expressed confidence that the system could withstand a strong earthquake, noting they have been upgrading the pipeline for years.

Another open question is whether the major quake would cause damage to fire stations, police headquarters and facilities of other emergency agencies, possibly slowing their response. A state study found that many of the 1,300 emergency operations buildings were constructed before strict quake building standards were enacted in 1986, and that only a portion of those had been retrofitted.

At the LAPD, the only four facilities to meet the most recent and rigorous "essential building" standards are the department´s newest: the West Valley and Mission police stations and two 911 dispatch centers.

Yvette Sanchez-Owens, head of the department´s facilities management office, said she is most concerned about three stations built in the 1960s: Rampart, Hollenbeck and Harbor. Police officers at the Harbor station in San Pedro have been relocated to trailers while a new station is built; officers could be moved out of the Hollenbeck station in Boyle Heights sometime this fall as preparation for construction of a new station begins.

As for Parker Center, it already sustained significant damage during the Northridge earthquake. It is also scheduled to be replaced, but not for several years.

"It could be in real trouble," Sanchez-Owens said. "It´s definitely not built up to standard."

Times staff writer Bettina Boxall contributed to this report.

Yes, Golda, snow in southern BC at this time of year is indeed very unusual. And, in the meantime, at the other end of our big country, in Toronto, the temperatures this week are expected to be a balmy 30-32 degrees Celsius. Equally unusual. Signs that the climate is indeed changing year after year? Or that Mother Earth, Nature, is acting according to the emotional state of the people in the different parts of the world? Or perhaps more likely, that someone's technology is changing the N.A. weather patterns... for whatever reasons?

We had to kill our patients

New Orleans: Doctors forced to ´play God´

Doctors working in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans killed critically ill patients rather than leaving them to die in agony as they evacuated hospitals, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
With gangs of rapists and looters rampaging through wards in the flooded city, senior doctors took the harrowing decision to give massive overdoses of morphine to those they believed could not make it out alive.

In an extraordinary interview with The Mail on Sunday, one New Orleans doctor told how she ´prayed for God to have mercy on her soul´ after she ignored every tenet of medical ethics and ended the lives of patients she had earlier fought to save.

Her heart-rending account has been corroborated by a hospital orderly and by local government officials. One emergency official, William ´Forest´ McQueen, said: "Those who had no chance of making it were given a lot of morphine and lain down in a dark place to die."

Euthanasia is illegal in Louisiana, and The Mail on Sunday is protecting the identities of the medical staff concerned to prevent them being made scapegoats for the events of last week.

Their families believe their confessions are an indictment of the appalling failure of American authorities to help those in desperate need after Hurricane Katrina flooded the city, claiming thousands of lives and making 500,000 homeless.

´These people were going to die anyway´

The doctor said: "I didn´t know if I was doing the right thing. But I did not have time. I had to make snap decisions, under the most appalling circumstances, and I did what I thought was right.

United States Orders Military Redeployments Within Their Borders as Massive Volcanic Activity Detected In Their Pacific Coast and New Madrid Fault Zone Regions

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Russian Subscribers

Russian Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that the Military Leaders of the United States have ordered their Internal Military Forces to redeploy to ‘Ready Position Ophelia’ in anticipation of what Russian Scientists are reporting as an impending cataclysmic event that could potentially devastate the entire United States.

These reports today reconfirm our report of September 6th titled ‘Operation Ophelia’ Begins In United States as Plan for ‘Major Cataclysmic Event’ Put Into Effect, NORTHCOM Assumes Control over Entire Country", and wherein we had stated, "Russian Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that the Military Leaders of the United States have begun the implementation of what the Americans are calling ‘Operation Ophelia’, and which calls for the dividing of the United States into separate Military Districts under the command of their newly established North American Defense Division of NORTHCOM.

According to these reports ‘Operation Ophelia’ was originated as a strategic plan for the total changing of American society based upon ‘2 or more’ cataclysmic events occurring in their country over a period of 6 months, and as these reports further show these American Military Leaders are now ‘convinced’ are about to occur."

And our August 25th report titled "United States Warns Foreign Governments of ‘Impending’ Internal Crises While Massive American Troop Movements Continue", and wherein we had stated, "Russian Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that the Military Leaders of the United States have communicated to many of the worlds leaders that a ‘crises’ is about to occur in their country and further warning that any ‘outside’ interference into the internal affairs of the United States will be met with ‘swift and sure’ action.

This unprecedented warning comes at a time when multiple threats are confronting not only the United States, but also the entire world, and which include; 1.) An impending flu pandemic estimated to kill upwards of 1 billion people; 2.) An acceleration of Global Weather Changes destroying up to 20% of this years crops in many Western Nations; 3.) The skyrocketing costs of oil threatening the stability of the Worlds Financial Markets; 4.) The impending crackdown on American citizens and imposition of Martial Law; and 5.) Growing instability in the very core of the Earth itself giving rise to fears of mass earthquakes and volcanic activity on a scale not seen in modern times."

The immediacy of the present actions being taken by the Military Leaders of the United States are appearing to be related the growing series of events relating to our earths core which has become so destabilized that according to Russian Scientists means a ‘major geological correction’ is imminent, and with each passing day shows this ‘correction’ taking place on the North American Plate.

One of the greatest concerns voiced by Russian Scientists is over the Australian Continent earthquakes of this past week and whose antipodal counterpart is the southern edge of the North American Plate where it meets the Caribbean Plate, and has in turn begun the movement of lava in both the New Madrid and Northwestern Regions of North America.

In the New Madrid Region this is evidenced by the seismograph readings of this area showing an increasing number of what are called Long Period Events, and are described by the American Government Scientist, Dr. Bernard Chouet, that discovered them as being, "The concept of long-period events was originally used by people at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory to describe an event that has characteristics distinct from a so-called tectonic earthquake. If you’re looking at a seismogram of a tectonic earthquake, its spectrum is very broad. In contrast, a long-period event has a very, very sharp spectrum, what we call a resonant spectrum. If you compare seismic traces, it’s immediately apparent that the long-period event looks like a ringing bell and the other looks like a mess of all different frequencies piled up on each other. That very, very narrow spectrum is the telltale sign of a resonator. Think of a bell sound. An organ pipe. They’re all different types of resonators in nature."

To the power of Dr. Chouet’s to correctly predict volcanic activity prior to even earthquakes occurring by the detection of these Long Period Events has been reported on many times in the worlds media, such as the BBC’s program titled ‘Volcano Hell’, and wherein they stated about this American Scientists discovery, "This is the story of a signal with the power to save lives. It is a line on a graph that scientists had puzzled over for years not knowing what it meant. Then a man announced that he had uncovered its secret. The line, he said, was a volcano speaking to him. He believed it would lead him to a scientific Holy Grail - understanding when a volcano would erupt, but not everyone was convinced. What followed would shatter the world of volcanology and destroy lives."

And to the destroying of lives seems to be the intent of the Military Leaders of the United States as they are intent upon the protection of their elite citizens and Military Resources but have yet to begin the mass movements from the areas most likely to be effected, and instead are simply mailing out ‘booklets’, and not even to all of their citizens, and as we can read as reported by the Associated Press News Service in their article titled "USGS Publishes Earthquake Book" and which says, "Workers at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park are busy mailing out what could be life-saving handbooks designed to help people who live in the Bay Area survive a natural disaster. The book called "Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country" tells folks what to do before, during and after a quake."

Growing concern has also been voiced by Russian Scientists about the Northwest Regions of the United States where evidences for a cataclysmic event continue to grow, and as we can read from these various reports from that area:

As reported by the scientists at Physorg.com in their article titled "Bulge in Central Oregon may be a volcano" and which says, "Scientists studying a land bulge near Bend, Ore., think a new volcano may be forming. A group from the U.S. Geological Survey is studying the swelling in Earth´s crust. It is nearly two-thirds the size of Portland, Oregon."

As reported by the MSNBC News Service in their article titled "Slow seismic slip begins in Pacific Northwest" and which says, "An important seismic event imperceptible to humans has begun in the Pacific Northwest as predicted, according to the government agency Geological Survey of Canada. The chance of a major earthquake is 30 times higher now for a roughly two-week period, but the odds are still remote, scientists say."

As reported by the Canadian CNNews Service in their article titled "The Big One cometh, but our scientists are ready" and which says, "John Cassidy, research scientist at Natural Resources Canada, says Vancouver Island is being shaken by small quakes every two weeks; a discovery that actually helps scientists. "The area that´s being affected is like being hit by a very slow earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5," said Cassidy. "People can´t feel it but it´s adding energy that´s being stored up in pressure points of the North American fault." Instead of being fearful though, Cassidy says the discovery will help predict earthquakes along the fault."

And as we had reported in our September 1st report titled "Massive Cosmic Blasts Hit Southern Hemisphere as Western Coastal Regions of United States Become ‘Dead Zone’ and Global Weather System Near Catastrophic Failure" and wherein we had stated:

“An example is that while their eyes are being focused upon their Southern Regions, they are not aware of the even more catastrophic events occurring in their West Coast Regions, and as we can read as reported by the Associated Press News Service in their report titled "Mysterious Changes Hit Pacific Coast; The Bottom Has Fallen Out of the Coastal Food Chain" and which says;

"Marine biologists are seeing mysterious and disturbing things along the Pacific Coast this year: higher water temperatures, plummeting catches of fish, lots of dead birds on the beaches, and perhaps most worrisome, very little plankton -- the tiny organisms that are a vital link in the ocean food chain. Is this just one freak year? Or is this global warming?

Very few scientists are willing to blame global warming, the theory that carbon dioxide and other manmade emissions are trapping heat in the Earth´s atmosphere and causing a worldwide rise in temperatures. Yet few are willing to rule it out. "There are strange things happening, but we don´t really understand how all the pieces fit together," said Jane Lubchenco, a zoologist and climate change expert at Oregon State University. "It´s hard to say whether any single event is just an anomaly or a real indication of something serious happening."

And even as these, and many more, evidences mount for the growing cataclysmic changes soon to occur in the United States, it is not to their Military Leaders to prepare for the saving of their citizens lives, but is instead towards gathering to themselves even greater dictatorial powers, and as we can read as reported by the Hearst News Service in their article titled “Bush says he may need more power in disasters" and which says:

"President Bush on Monday urged Congress to examine whether the White House needs stronger powers to deal with catastrophes like Hurricane Katrina. Bush’s backing for the congressional inquiry raised the possibility that lawmakers might expand presidential authority to: • Order mandatory civilian evacuations • Dispatch U.S.-based armed forces for emergency search-and-rescue operations • Grant wider leeway for active-duty U.S. military personnel to carry out law enforcement operations. “It’s really important that as we take a step back and learn lessons — that we are in a position to adequately answer the question: ‘Are we prepared for major catastrophes?”

To the American people believing that their elected representatives would protect them against this massive internal power grab by their Military Leaders they would be mistaken, and as we can read as reported by the Reuters News Service in their article titled "US senator urges Pentagon to review disaster role" and which says:

"The head of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Wednesday urged the Pentagon to review laws that limit the use of U.S. troops to restore order after a disasters like Hurricane Katrina or a terror attack. "The only entity in the United States that has the personnel, the equipment, the training and the logistical capacity to lend support to the National Guard and other state entities in an emergency of this scale is the Department of Defense," Virginia Republican Sen. John Warner told Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in a letter released by his office."

Today is yet another day that these American people lie sleeping in their deluded dream that they are a free people. Today is yet another day in which these most strange of peoples fail to see the Iron Jaws of Totalitarian Fascist Rule descending down upon them. Today is yet another day in which these once great people fail to prepare themselves for the violent and cataclysmic changing of their entire way of life, even having witnessed these past weeks what soon lies in store for them all.

Not even are they able to anymore see the glaring and alarming contradictions among their Military Leaders and Allies of Death and Destruction either. Where the British Fascist Leader Blair threatened his own people with Military Force over their protests of fuel prices ("Blair will bring in Army to beat fuel blockade"), the much freer nation of France instead threatened the oil companies. ("British fuel protests fizzle as France gets tough")

The perverted logic of these Western peoples can be seen by the words of the British Intelligence Leader echoing his American counterparts, and as we can read as reported by the Reuters News Service in their article titled "UK spy chief warns of civil liberties sacrifice" and which says, "The head of Britain´s security services has warned that civil liberties across the world may have to be sacrificed to prevent future terrorist attacks."

But without any doubt the American people themselves have fallen the furthest from not only the once great ideals they shared, but also the words from one of their forefathers, Benjamin Franklin, who had passed onto them these words, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

As the once great United States dissolves around its sleeping people, they will soon awaken into a nightmare for their having failed to understand those words, or perhaps more importantly, to live by them.
