This is an interesting article and quite concise. Drew Hempel has done a lot of research. I wonder if he is any relation to Mark Hempel? He's from Minneapolis as well. There is a link to a forum he writes in with other interesting research. I'm not sure the date of this article and the emphasis in bold is mine.

The Actual Plan for the Matrix: Incommensurability, Harmonic Resonance, and the Religion of Technology

The below summary of crucial information is thus far almost completely unknown to the public at large.

1) I discovered that my concept of sound-current nondualism (see my Masters Thesis, "Epicenters of Justice") was already developed by the Philosophy of Science Professor Oliver L. Reiser. Professor Reiser's Ph.D. was on nondualism and he then published a early concept of the superstring theory and its applications to social society called "World Philosophy." (1945) Einstein praised this work as the best example of a unified field theory. In 1965 Reiser published his manifesto called "Cosmic Humanism" inspired by Einstein's work. Harmonic resonance is the foundation of this work through the application of the "Music Logarithmic Spiral."

2) Reiser's book "Cosmic Humanism" was held in the highest esteem by a think tank called the "Institute for Integrative Education." This think tank was set up by a Forest Products magnate, Julius Stulman and its office was then located at the UN Plaza. It's Board of Directors included the family that directed the nondualist Theosophist Society and it also included scientists from Harvard and Yale. The goal of this Institute, as spelled out in their flagship academic journal, "Main Currents in Modern Thought" (1940-1975) was to review all prominent academic journals and integrate all knowledge to the goals of nondualist theosophy. With this in mind the journal had a very advanced interest in eastern philosophy, paranormal research, eugenics, higher dimensional physics and social engineering.

3) In 1936, Dr. Reiser, introduced and promoted the concept of "radio-eugenics" in the scientific Journal of Heredity. This entails applications of radiation for evolution. In 1945 Dr. Reiser was impressed by think tank founder Julius Stulman's article called "Applied Energy to Social Relations." In the 1965 publication of "Cosmic Humanism" that is highly praised by Stulman's Institute for Integrative Education, the concept of radio-eugenics is promoted in synthesis with the concept of nondual harmonic resonance. Dr. Reiser states that we learned from Hiroshima and Nagasaki that not only does radiation cause massive destruction but that even those who survive "the baptism by fire" have children with severe birth defects. He then states that unfortunately that is how evolution works and that hopefully with the proper applied harmonic resonance of radiation then a new human society and a new "World Sensorium" will be achieved. The "World Sensorium" of Dr. Reiser is based on utilizing the radiation of the ionosphere, amplifying it with high technology, and applying it globally to cause mutations. The effect is to achieve not only a higher dimensional reality but to harness the zero-point energy.

4) In 1965 Julius Stulman founder of the Institute for Integrative Education, with the recommendation of the UN Technical Administrator, sets up the World Institute, in collaboration with the Insititute for Advanced Studies at Princeton. The World Institute is to oversee the direction of technology for the globe and it advises with presidents worldwide. Meanwhile Dr. Reiser's work is published in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram newsletter and Sri Aurobindo's students propose that the future body of humanity will be radioactive (Letters on Yoga III). The Music Logarithmic Spiral is published in the journal "Darshana International."

5) In 1975 Dr. Reiser publishes "Cosmic Humanism and World Unity" (Gordon and Beech) as part of a series for the World Institute. This book calls the plan for the World Sensorium, "The Matrix" several times and states that, in concept, it is closest to H.G. Well's 1936 proposal for a "World Brain" to the Freemasonic Royal Institute for International Affairs the source for the Council of Foreign Relations. H.G. Wells was not just a science fiction writer, he was the head of British secret intelligence during World War One and he was the mouthpiece for the global elite policy makers. The World Brain was inspired by the NeoPlatonitic concept of the Matrix outlined by Professor John Ruskin, a favorite source of inspiration for the Royal Institute of International Affairs.

6) Dr. Reiser states that his main collaborator in creating "the Matrix" is Dr. Andrija Puharich. Dr. Puharich has been recently exposed as a top CIA funded mind control scientist focusing on higher dimensions and a high level Theosophist by Dr. Jacque Vallee (1974) and by Clive Prince and Lynn Picknett (1998). Both Puharich and Reiser called for the creation for a new techno-spirituality global religion. Dr. Puharich called the plan for the Matrix, "Psi-Plasma." He described the NeoPlatonic Harmony of the Spheres that, as elaborated by Reiser, includes artificial intelligence, zero-point energy, techno-samadhi, biological holograms, plasma and lasers, galatic manipulation of higher dimensions. Dr. Reiser explictly describes the evolution of the Matrix by stating that the Earth is an egg and in the egg is an embryo. The embryo feeds off the humans, animals and plants, as the ectoderm and entoderm of the egg, in order to create the new World Mother or the Matrix, the Sub-Stance or Psi-Plasma of Nondualism. Again unfortunately, according to this plan, most of humanity and the environment are seen as necessary costs to developing the next level of evolution.

7) Dr. Puharich was the main promoter of an elite nondualist secret society based on the Council of Nine -- a higher dimensional ennead that are considered to be aspects of the Nondual God and to be sources of higher intelligence. This Council of Nine is traced back to ancient India and ancient Egypt (see Prince and Picknett's "The Stargate Conspiracy" and Jacque Bergier's "Morning of the Magicians"). Central to the Council of Nine's secret knowledge is the connection between music theory, geometry, algebra and higher dimensional reality. As documented in "The Stargate Conspiracy," many prominent policy makers and society elite have been part of the promotion of the secret Council of Nine, including Gene Rodenberry, Al Gore, and Senator Clairborne Pell.

8) Through the Theosophist academic think tanks, several Professors have published research into the secret origins of this harmonic resonance higher dimensional knowledge, most prominently Eric Temple Bell, Johns Hopkins Chemist C. H. Andrews book "The Symphony of Life," and musicology Professor Ernest McClain. There are many others, including a Harvard geologist, a Yale physicist, and a Berkeley mathematics Professor, Dr. Abraham
Seidenberg. Seidenberg has been given prominent attention in recent Advaita Vedanta research because he documents the origins of the Pythagorean Theorem as far back as 3,000 B.C. in Vedic India. In several essays in prominent academic journals, Seidenberg states that the concept of incommensurability or paradox of the infinite, was established worldwide through human sacrifice altar rituals that maintained creation through the cosmic separation of heaven and earth. (Note versus the union of heaven and earth by humanity -- the explicit goal of Taoist harmonics and OM nondualism).

9) The prominence of music theory in the issue of incommensurability and paradoxes of the infinite has been confirmed to me by recent correspondence with Mathematics Professor Luigi Borzacchini (University of Bari, Italy). Still unpublished, his paper, "Incommensurability, Music and Continuum: A cognitive approach" documents that a radical transformation occurred in science and philosophy with Plato and his colleague, the military general and mechanical engineer Archytas. Plato and Archytas were worshippers of Dionysus, the horned god of the underworld and chaos. The equivalent of Dionysus in Egypt is Set, a parallel to the forces of disruption or Satan in Judaism. The essential aspect of Plato's philosophy was the limitation of the Infinite Cosmic Mother into the finite geometrical Grand Architect or Great Geometrician of the Universe. This involved a conscious corruption of Pythagorean shamanic-yoga based on complimentary opposites of infinite natural harmonics (Pythagoras' 1:2:3:4 is equivalent to OM and yin/yang). The link between Freemasonry and Theosophy is well-documented in "The Stargate Conspiracy." Many new age gurus have been linked to the CIA and to these theosophist think tanks, included Drunvalo Melchizadek and Jose Arguelles who is the main promoter of Dr. Reiser's views.

10) The method of the Matrix is containment of the threatening natural resonance of the Cosmic Mother, then destruction, then standardization through dead artificial intelligence. The first example of this religion of technology is the creation of the square root of two. As the University of Nebraska Philosophy Professors, P. Hugly and C. Sayward point out in their essay "Did the Greeks Discover the Irrational" (1999), there is no actual proof for the square root of two! It is an illusion and a deceptive charm of "the power set axiom." The first proof that approximated the square root of two was the "squaring of the circle." The Vedic priests, as far back as 3,000 B.C., demanded that altars be patriarchal squares, and that matriarchal female circles were heretical. If circle altars were built they had to be the same area as the squares. (Dr. Seidenberg, "The Ritual Origins of Geometry"). The squaring of the circle is a central theorem to the Freemasons. The second proof that necessitated the containment of the Cosmic Mother was the doubling of the cubical altar. The gods stated, as far back as 3,000 B.C., that a plague could only be stopped unless this was mathematically achieved.

11) Archytas, the military general collaborator with Plato, faced the same Demonic Altar Plague problem as occurred in 3,000 B.C. Many scholars have written about the connections between ancient India and Greece, explicitly regarding Archytas. By combining the Pythagorean harmonic proportions with the geometry of India, Archytas was able to give a proof for the square root of two, that also enabled standarization or equal-temperment of the octave music scale. In otherwords this proof extended the Yin/Yang, OM, Pythagorean harmonics into greater dissonance by containing the infinite to a three dimensional object of geometry. The result enabled analytic geometry and inverse proportions, central to western science, to be achieved. Unfortunately the technology is inherently against the natural harmonics of reality. This is why equal-tempered tuning, although conceived in ancient China, was not allowed for the society as a whole. Also in ancient China it was remarked that those who know the 3:4:5 triangle, based on the Golden Section and the Major Third music interval, could rule the world. Any supposed "sacred geometry" that is based on the square root of two is really just a promotion of destructive techno-spirituality.

12) In my research I was able to reconstruct the secret proof of Archytas, that enabled the creation of western science from music theory. Professor Bozacchini also has discovered this connection. The retired Boston University geophysicst Gerald Hawkins discovered this secret theorem as well in his research of crop circles. Also John Worrell Keely apparently developed higher dimensional harmonic resonance technology based on the 3:4:5 triangle. Keely's harmonic resonance findings that demonstrated levitation, disintegration, energy generation, etc., funded by the richest man in the U.S. at that time, Jacob Astor, were concealed apparently by the Freemasonic Skull and Bones society according to a recent book by Theo Paijmans. George Bush, Sr. former CIA director, is a member of the Skull and Bones Society. The 3:4:5 triangle is the basis of the logarithmic music spiral that will be used to create the Matrix, according to the Theosophists and the CIA.

13) Continually throughout the research of the Theosophist analysts, it is clear that their goals can only be achieved by nondual mind-body yoga. Instead they are pursuing this goal through destructive technology and as both Sri Aurobindo and Swami Yukteswar both pointed out, nondualism can never be achieved through technology. Therefore the plan for the Matrix, although it may destroy the planet, will never be successful. Always-already the Cosmic Mother will be waiting to embrace those who practice shamanic-yoga nonduality. The conscious suppression of shamanic-yoga nondualism by Western Civilization, is documented by Oxford scholar Dr. Peter Kingsley in his recent book, "In the Dark Places of Wisdom."

14) Recent plans by the current U.S. administration include microchipping the whole population, called "the Bioweapons Defense Shield" by the HHW Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies. FEMA is designing new emergency detention centers to be located outside all major cities -- possible to be used for "techno-samadhi" Matrix states. NASA has advanced brain scanners to be introduced. Laser and plasma weapons will be featured in the next
destruction of Iraq. Project HAARP plans to test, at full power, a vast electro-magnetic ionosophere spectrum through attennae in Alaska, Greenland and Norway. The Russian duma has warned that it could potentially destroy current near-Earth technologies.

The Transhumanism Trap: Why Biohacking Chains Consciousness to the Material World

Can technology help humanity realise its full potential? Transhumanists see the merging of man and machine as a natural “next step” in human evolution, but where does consciousness fall in the equation? Instead of bringing freedom, merging ourselves with technology could chain consciousness to the physical body and material world, overriding our natural capacity for spiritual evolution.

The search for expanded states of consciousness is part of the human experience. With technology developing at a breakneck pace, people are increasingly interested in how to best “hack” their daily life for enhanced productivity, emotional satisfaction, and even physical well being. Transhumanism, or the belief that humans can use technology to evolve past their current limited physical and mental experience of life, presents an interesting question on the subject of consciousness: can technology lead us to higher states of consciousness, or is it just the opposite — a weight dragging us back into the heaviness of the material world?

Proponents of transhumanism say that humans are clearly still in the early stages of our evolution, and the next logical step forward includes using all available technologies to evolve (humans in transition or transhumanism). There’s even the potential for us to become human beings that are so radically different from ordinary folk as to deserve the title “post humans”.

This idea of human transformation is not new — there are traditions stretching back centuries dealing with how to reach the heightened state of consciousness known as enlightenment, how to attain eternal life, and how to live a transcendent existence.

So how does one transcend the pain, problems, and general clunkiness of ordinary life in the physical world? Technology offers undeniable help in day-to-day functioning, but is it enough to actually transform the human race?

Modern biohackers, also known as “grinders”, like Amal Graafstra, have found ways to develop what you might call extrasensory perceptions, akin to a sixth sense. This isn’t something like intuition or clairvoyance however; these sixth senses require implants to extend the capabilities of the human body. Whether using RFID technology to open doors, unlock a laptop, or even perceive the location of true north, Graafstra believes that embeddable tech is the next step in human evolution. Microchip Birth Control

The company MicroCHIPS is developing a contraceptive microchip that can be implanted under the skin. This cutting-edge device is capable of storing 16 years worth of birth control which is dispensed daily in a woman’s body, and is capable of being turned “on” and “off” remotely, depending on whether she wishes to conceive. Proponents cite convenience in family planning, not having to remember to take a pill, and not needing to have the device removed for 16 years, unlike other forms of contraception currently in the market which last for only 5 years.

Football fans can now track all the game day movements of their favourite players. The NFL, in conjunction with Zebra Technologies, is rolling out real-time location systems (RTLS) in 17 stadiums this year. Is Tech Shrinking or Expanding our Consciousness?

Wearable or implantable tech and transhumanism are quite loaded subjects and raise many ethical questions, along with valid concerns about privacy and safety (hackers tampering with other’s embedded medical devices comes to mind). While being able to unlock doors with the wave of your hand or swallow a pill full of medical nanobots may sound attractive to some, it’s worth considering whether these technologies are giving us more freedom, or less.

A key tenet of transhumanist philosophy is the ability to transform our normal, mundane human experience into an enhanced, even radically different way of life. The goal is to be transformed through the use of technology — biohacking your way to a new you, as it were.

Could humanity be searching for transformed existence in an erroneous way? There are no guarantees that completely revamping your material existence will bring lasting happiness for example, and some people display sixth-sense type heightened abilities like clairvoyance or clairaudience without the use of tech implants.

Anecdotal evidence of precognition, telepathy, intuition, and out-of-body experiences suggests that human consciousness is capable of experiencing a much deeper level of life than what is commonly accepted as normal. Through spiritual practice our consciousness is capable of growing and gaining knowledge of a finer type than the best technologies can offer.

For instance, if we want to feel energised and mentally clear without the need for a battery and electrical nodes we could implement the ancient practice of awareness of the present moment in daily life. Or for those who want to really push the limits of human existence and safely explore what happens after death, astral projection is a viable option.

While there isn’t an exact point-for-point correlation between the claimed enhancements biohacking offers and the potentials that exist by developing human consciousness spiritually, the premise is very similar: exalting the human condition and surpassing the limitations of the physical senses and body.

With spiritual development however, there is no reliance on an additional chip, machine, or electrode to reach profound knowledge and heightened states of being, because consciousness is not bound by the limits of the physical body. As an added bonus, unlike modern technology, no one can remove or steal the knowledge we gain from awakening, and we’re even in a much better position to recognize and deal with those who would try to manipulate us physically or mentally when we have expanded consciousness.

The body is impermanent and will eventually die, but consciousness continues after death. This is explained in many spiritual traditions and revealed in phenomena like Near-Death Experiences (NDEs). The level of consciousness we attain in life through spiritual awakening continues when our body is no more, as consciousness itself evolves through awakening, not the body – which is just a temporary vehicle for it. While spiritual awakening sets consciousness free from the limitations of the body and the five senses, depending on a body integrated with technology for evolution and heightened perception only serves to further bind our existence and perception to the the transient material realm, which is only a small part of our existence, and has a definitive end. Furthermore, altering the body with technology could interfere with our natural capacity to use our time in the physical world to awaken consciousness.

In much the same way as our hyper-connectedness can hinder spiritual development, over-reliance on technology has the potential to keep our consciousness firmly bound to the material world, only capable of interpreting information gleaned from the five senses. This is not to say technology in itself is bad, or that we should stop our pursuit of future technologies. It would just be a shame to confuse biohacking with the opportunity to truly evolve through awakening consciousness. The generation of children growing up right now immersed in technology, not knowing anything else, could easily think the only way to experience an enhanced life is through physically augmenting oneself. But non-physical spiritual evolution, through direct contact and knowledge of the divine, will trump material progress every time.

It’s shows why the disclosure in the 5th Neruda Interview is so important to understand at this time in our development. I just read the final paragraph by James again which explains the simple truth so powerfully:

What is within us was present before the universe was created. Our inner, pre-quantum core existed previous to spacetime, before any extra-dimensional race enslaved us. We are not weak or defenseless. We are not mere human beings with eighty year lifespans. WE ARE infinite, and we are all that is needed to transform reality so that each of us serves truth, because we see truth. Earth is not a playground or a schoolroom any more than we are gullible children. There is no new age or end time; there is only the infinite platform upon which we all belong, where we rise up as Sovereign Integrals upon earth.

As many begin to wake up now, the desperation is ever-more apparent to keep us ignorant and in chaos. These transhuman technologies will greatly endeavour to have the masses believe over time that we are weak and dependent - and that we will require the competitive edge it offers to survive the new economic world. And people will believe it, only to find the economic world is perishable.

Thanx for that sirryah. Google is appearing to be more and more evil.To me Transhumanism is surreal I guess that goes with trying to make humans superficial and artificial and doing everything they can to convince us that that is what we are essentially. They are. They are more programmed then those they are endeavouring to convince. Even with children there's movies like Wall-e, the Transformers and others not to speak about the video games, you can see how they are trying to make machines as normal and natural for humans to imitate as possible, by making us willing to have the tech invade our bodies all the more for them to control us like never before. They started with trying to separate us from nature. But it looks like there is a movement that is going back to it or for some they never left it. 7 + billion people on the planet are a lot of people and most of them have nothing to do with the high tech, media, statistics, and being influenced by such. I'll bank on the 7+ billion and nature. We really have to be discerning about what we accept and that the media works overtime to convince us of because there are so many of us compared to them. Technology and machines are meant to serve us not us become them. They got it backwords unless this Matrix is run by machines. :shock: But still, that the WingMakers exist as us in the future shows we got through all this and that the asses of the oppressors were banished from the planet. The planet and Sun have Intelligence too, and it doesn't look like either are open to being controlled by ignorance. That's a comforting thought.

Please use great discernment when viewing these vids about Transhumanism. Notice how these people act as if this is inevitable and that we don't have a choice and that they have made the choice for us. This is typical arrogant Annunaki like behavior by beings so deluded that they think they are superior. Don't buy into it. I have been saying for years on this forum that making us into machines is the goal of these people. Because they limit their options doesn't mean that we have too. Notice the scientist and how he needs a meter that says BRAIN written on it with a sharpie! And how he flicks the skulls around as if they are toys?! These people are so totally programmed to try to convince us that Transhumanism is inevitable and that we absolutely need it. No it isn't, no we don't. This is to inform and nothing more and maybe issue some compassion at these deluded limited whatever they are. They sound so lifeless and soulless. Natasha Vita More and Joseph M. Rosen are particularily programmed or implanted. They also talk as if existence is only possible in a human body or some kind of body and that existence ends when the body does???!!! They don't believe infinity is possible unless they create its possibility through TransHumanism. Unless...they already are what they are advocating. They act soulless, spiritless and lifeless, they sound so mechanical already. There is absolutely no "Heart" in any of this.

These vids can be appreciated for showing how this has all come about. However, what they are advocating is considered an upgrade for what is already created by the Annunaki and Sirians, these human instruments of ours we are wearing now. Bodies are not necessary for the Sovereign Integral to exist and be and never have been. They have been its prison and what Transhumanism offers is more bars on the prison walls and no choice. In a Transhuman world humans no longer have choice. And its not even like what choice we think we have now, is conducive to being a Sovereign Integral but it does allow us to find out that we are Sovereign Integrals and that we can find how to untether ourselves from its bonds. Our Sovereign Integral has its own blueprint, or DNA structure if you will and is not taken into account by the Transhumanists. The DNA of the SI is unravelling if you will and with that who would want Transhumanism when what we have to look forward too with Human 3.0 S.I. blows them out of the water??!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Watch Ray the Google guy in vid 2. The way he blinks is like he already is a cyborg, the same with Natasha. Both of them are already fitted with various implants where neither have the capacity to know anymore that Transhumanism is still a choice. They both assume it's already done and don't know they are programmed and implanted to behave like that. Do we know if they are still human enough to know that they aren't machines...yet? Gregory Stock is another cyborg like Ray the Google guy and Natasha. Odd that in vid 2 they show only 2 major options, Jesus people and the scientists as if no other options exists or that if they do it is not of signifigance. I realize they have put it between science and religion, however, a good number of people support neither. So WTF? This is twisted. Interestingly enough though, those who are advocating Transhumanism are pitching it like we of the WingMakers, are looking forward to the full realization of the Sovereign Integral. The collective of the SI is so very, very different than a mechanically controlled borg collective . I keep picturing "The Borg" from Star Trek when I envision Google Ray's dream and Natasha's. But that's just me.

Oh pleeeeze... what is causing extinctions is purposeful neglect and destruction by corporations and their so called technology against various species of the planet you bastards! There is nothing magnificent about that! To do what they are doing to the planet and the species as a whole is atrocious and we are not buying it. They are accountable and responsible. I can't say that it endures McKenna to me but does explain his advocation of drugs to "expand" your consciousness with. He was/is part of the plan for Transhumanism. I really love overviews. It's amazing the lengthes gone to to disregard the Energetic Heart/Sovereign Integral where in cryonics only heads are frozen to be revived in the future! :shock: WE ARE ALREADY LIVING IN A VIRTUAL REALITY JIM YOUNT!

Onto vid 3! Remember, the concept of God is Annunaki and of Anu in particular. It is he who wants to be the God of All. All religions are based on this. All of this is leading up to that about worshipping Anu as God and Transhumanism is now the flavor advocated to bring that about...still and for the sake of his ego. There you have it. A golum before tech as we know it was revived by other means than AI because it was created through means that were not AI but similar. Reviving the golum could only be done by its creator who eventually had to destroy it. Read the Red Lion.

Minsky says "Once people are machines..." !!!!!!! There are more than a few that are Annunaki incarnated or absolutely controlled by the Annunaki. I keep thinking of those portals accessed by certian suceptible humans in The Dorhman Prophecy who when they travel through and go throught the so called "Bliss machine" come back ego empowered. With these vids you can see how religion no matter which one in particular is manipulated and used to further the agenda of Transhumanism. I doubt very much the Dalai Lama is part of this when he says bring it on its because he knows he blows Transhumanism out of the water. Anything of the Heart such as Compassion is not part of the Transhumanist agenda. The Grand Portal can't happen too soon. :roll:

Outsourcing menial tasks to machines can seem liberating, but it may be robbing a whole generation of certain basic mental abilities.

One of the oldest metaphors for human interaction with technology is the relationship of master and slave. Aristotle imagined that technology could replace slavery if devices like the loom became automated. In the 19th century, Oscar Wilde foresaw a future when machines performed all dull and unpleasant labor, freeing humanity to amuse itself by “making beautiful things,” or simply “contemplating the world with admiration and delight.” Marx and Engels saw things differently. “Masses of laborers are daily and hourly enslaved by the machine,” they wrote in the Communist Manifesto. Machines had not saved us from slavery; they had become a means of enslavement.

Today, computers often play both roles. Nicholas Carr, the author of the 2008 Atlantic cover story “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, confronts this paradox in his new book, The Glass Cage: Automation and Us, analyzing the many contemporary fields in which software assists human cognition, from medical diagnostic aids to architectural modeling programs. As its title suggests, the book also takes a stand on whether such technology imprisons or liberates its users. We are increasingly encaged, he argues, but the invisibility of our high-tech snares gives us the illusion of freedom. As evidence, he cites the case of Inuit hunters in northern Canada. Older generations could track caribou through the tundra with astonishing precision by noticing subtle changes in winds, snowdrift patterns, stars, and animal behavior. Once younger hunters began using snowmobiles and GPS units, their navigational prowess declined. They began trusting the GPS devices so completely that they ignored blatant dangers, speeding over cliffs or onto thin ice. And when a GPS unit broke or its batteries froze, young hunters who had not developed and practiced the wayfinding skills of their elders were uniquely vulnerable.

Carr includes other case studies: He describes doctors who become so reliant on decision-assistance software that they overlook subtle signals from patients or dismiss improbable but accurate diagnoses. He interviews architects whose drawing skills decay as they transition to digital platforms. And he recounts frightening instances when commercial airline pilots fail to perform simple corrections in emergencies because they are so used to trusting the autopilot system. Carr is quick to acknowledge that these technologies often do enhance and assist human skills. But he makes a compelling case that our relationship with them is not as positive as we might think...more

Transhumanism is a process and has been in the original plan of the Annunaki since the inception of Human 1.0. We are now at a cross roads where its implementation is crucial for the original plan of the Annunaki to come to complete fruitition. Everything about the HMS has led to this and in all fields of endeavor, however subtle some seem. Humans have been constantly reinforced with being weak and ineffective and that we need a master/teacher/God/ always something or someone who is superior to show us the ropes but we can never truly be like and its always external to us. There is no heart in it, that is how you know it is of separation, thus, not of the Sovereign IntegralThis is all about suppressing the Sovereign Integral like never beforeand keeping that baby going. Forever. Because now, enough people are waking up and questioning. Actually, too many people are asking too many questions. So its expedient that we are compared to computers and other machines and made to look inferior, weak and fragile compared to them if not having too short of lifespans. The Heart is never referred too or mentioned unless it is to replace it with a mechanical one, metaphorically speaking. If our HMS flesh bodies are made to look like only technology can enhance and improve upon whether in health or not, the fear of death program or implant is activated and brought into play so that such mechanical enhancements are asked for by us or even begged for by some. We don't know exactly what else is part of the mechnical enhancements in terms of controlling what's left of our HMS minds. But we can guess. :roll: Drugs were an experiment but too unpredictable and not completely controllable. Mind control, deteriation of the food supply, air and water are all part of this plan. If we consist of being more technology than of the Human 2.0 model, clean air and food and water aren't as important because the technology enhancements don't require it and Human 3.0 can live without that. Who knows maybe Human 3.0 won't require food as we know it anyway. Machines don't. Machines don't feel. What we feel from accessing our Energetic Hearts, such as compassion, kindness, forgiveness, appreciation, humility, and valor will be all but relics of the past because they are of our higher mind. Our higher mind is activated through the Energetic Heart and that DNA system is the Sovereign Integral. The SI being as suppressed as what the Human 3.0 promises also promises a world unimaginable for those with open hearts. Contemplate this. Imagine how a machine feels and imagine what a machine requires in terms of just Art alone. What is beauty to a machine? What is heartfelt meaning to a machine? Where does compassion come in here if at all if from a machine? We are of 2 minds with 2 DNA systems. The HMS is one, the one that is built to suppress and all but destroy the SI. However, with the practice of those 6 Heart Virtues the S.I. DNA is open and activated of the Sovereign Integral for what is coming to this planet from the Central Sun through our sun. This is the preparation spoken about. This is unlimited and unsurpassed and can't even be compared too by the HMS and its abject linear limitations based on separation. I marvel in the contemplation of I AM WE ARE. There is no HMS there....

This is why Transhumanism doesn't worry me and why I have started a thread about it as a record of awareness. Maybe for prosperity? Who knows, would it be needed? This is why I don't worry about it.

Transhumanism is trying to imitate this with technology so that we think it is only possible with technology and also to keep us that much more distracted from going within and seeing how powerful we truly are. Transhumanism is deathly frightened of our rejection of God, Science, Entertainment or any other distraction they throw at us to keep us focused on externals. We don't need them for anything and never have. Our discovery of that is their death knell. It's happening... We are not these bodies we are what give them life and that life has aways existed and always will. Ray Kurzweil is wrong: The Singularity is not near

Technology culture celebrates “the crazy ones,” those who expand our understanding of life, who can forge new realities out of their own imagination. Then again, sometimes “the crazy ones” come up with things that are just plain crazy.

I am thinking of Ray Kurzweil. No doubt he’s brilliant. He’s the inventor of the flatbed scanner and an innovator of many other technologies, including those involving character recognition, text-to-speech, speech recognition, and the music synthesizer. Currently head of engineering at Google, he’s working on natural language recognition for the company, and he’s a recipient of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

Despite these accomplishments, however, Kurzweil is perhaps best known for his science fiction-sounding predictions about the future, as described in his book, “The Singularity is Near.”

He posits that near future technology will advance so profoundly that collective human biology and artificial intelligence will merge into a super-intelligent reality he calls the Singularity, which I’ll get to in a moment. Honestly, I can’t even get reception on my phone at my house in rural Pennsylvania, and if reading the vile comment threads to media sites like Gawker doesn’t convince you that we humans are nowhere near ready to achieve intellectual and physical nirvana with machines, nothing will.

Nevertheless, the Singularity, as Kurzweil describes it, is:

a future period during which the pace of technological advance will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed… The Singularity will represent the culmination of the merger of our biological thinking and existence with our technology, resulting in a world that is still human but transcends our biological roots. There will be no distinction, post-Singularity, between human and machine or between physical and virtual.

Kurzweil estimates that the Singularity will happen in the year 2045.

But that’s not all. The Singularity, which is to say a humanity which has merged with technology, will turn its own intelligence into pure energy and saturate the universe at, or beyond, the speed of light.

In the aftermath of the Singularity, intelligence, derived from its biological origins in human brains an its technological origins in human ingenuity, will begin to saturate the matter and energy in its midst. It will achieve this by reorganizing matter and energy to provide an optimal level of computation…to spread out from its origin on Earth.

Kurzweil goes on to explain how it will propel information-matter faster than the speed of light and how “the ‘dumb’ matter and mechanisms of the universe will be transformed into exquisitely sublime forms of intelligence…”

If you think all that sounds weird, you’re not alone. Kurzweil’s claims have garnered much media attention, as well criticism. After all, it’s hard to say that the earth will transform into a pulsating orb of pure intelligence radiating outward at the speed of light and not turn a few heads.

Nevertheless, as trippy as this may sound, there are some biological underpinnings. My wife Allison Connell is a Cognitive Psychologist and Neuroscientist at Allegheny College, and she tells me that something akin to Kurzweil’s transference of matter to “pure energy” happens already in the body. Our sensory systems actually do transform external energy to internal energy in an amazing process called “transduction.” For instance, photoreceptors in our eyes absorb photons of different wavelengths (light energy, often straight from the sun itself) and convert that light energy to neural energy.

Way down this process of conversion, the brain creates actual electricity which it sends back out into the world through action potentials in brain cells. This is the signal that EEG records, small voltages of brain electricity leaving the skull, representing that once external energy. Of course, all this is a far cry from Kurzweil’s theory of pure intellect-energy.

Another critic calls into question Kurzweil’s working Theory of Mind, that which would enable the hybridization of biological intelligence with artificial intelligence, an idea central to Kurzweil’s Singularity. Philosopher and psychologist Colin McGinn wrote a negative review for the New York Times Review of Books about Kurzweil’s “How To Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed.” In this review, McGinn draws attention to the flaw underlying Kurzweil’s theory of mind, a theory called PRTM or Pattern Recognition of the Mind.

McGinn claims that Kurzweil has reduced the many different cognitive processes of the human brain to processes of “pattern recognition” that machines are good at. “What has happened is that [Kurzweil] has switched from patterns as stimuli in the external environment to patterns as mental entities, without acknowledging the switch,” writes McGinn. (McGinn positively reviewed Kurzweil’s “The Age of Spiritual Machines.”)

Pulitzer-prize winning author of the of classic tome on intelligence and consciousness “Godel Escher Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid” and professor of Cognitive Science Douglas Hofstadter is also not a fan. He says of Kurzweil’s theories:

If you read Ray Kurzweil’s books and [fellow futurist] Hans Moravec’s, what I find is that it’s a very bizarre mixture of ideas that are solid and good with ideas that are crazy. It’s as if you took a lot of very good food and some dog excrement and blended it all up so that you can’t possibly figure out what’s good or bad. It’s an intimate mixture of rubbish and good ideas, and it’s very hard to disentangle the two, because these are smart people; they’re not stupid… [T]he point is, there doesn’t seem to be any discussion anywhere of “Is this good?” It’s all “Let’s go faster! Faster! Faster!” Well, where are you going? What are you trying to do? And I don’t see any asking of these questions.

Kurzweil has gamely addressed such criticisms, even including an entire chapter in “The Singularity is Near” to addressing them. His list of criticisms to the Singularity and the law of accelerating change includes “the criticism for incredulity” (basically people going, “whaaaat?”), “the criticism from failure rates” (that our design and construction of tech could already be approaching its maximum capacity, which certainly would put a crimp on its extending indefinitely to the horizon), and “the criticism for Holism” (which Kurzweil summarizes as “machines are organized as rigidly structured hierarchies of modules, whereas biology is based on holistically organized elements in which every element affects every other”). These are just a few that Kurzweil addresses and refutes, sometimes very compellingly.

But the biggest problem with the concept of the Singularity, in my opinion, is conceptual, one which he doesn’t address in the book: his constant conflation of biological evolution with his versions of social and tech “evolution.”

Kurzweil has set up a narrative in which biological evolution, cultural development, and the advancement of computing technology are all part of the same immutable force, never mind that the will of human beings factors into the creation of both culture and technology. For Kurzweil, the advance of technology is as inevitable as biological evolution and can be plotted on the same graph.

Central to his Singularity thesis is the concept that the technology and culture that humans make are part of the same process as the bodies they have evolved.

Kurzweil presents this figure in “The Singularity is Near” to represent and support his view of exponential acceleration of human evolution. But the beginnings of this evolution are biological changes. In the middle you see social changes, such as art and agriculture. And at the end, you see inventions of technology, like television, radio, and computers. All of these are being presented as “human evolution,” but they actually represent three categories that operate on different time scales.

Kurzweil shores up his Singularity with a concept he calls “the law of accelerating returns,” which states that “the rate of evolutionary processes progresses exponentially” and that “technological evolution is an outgrowth of – and a continuation of – biological evolution.” (For a chuckle, follow the previous link and read the second paragraph.) The Singularity is also informed by the concept of ephemeralization, pioneered by Buckminster Fuller in his science-fiction novel “Nine Chains to the Moon,” “the ability of technological advancement to do ‘more and more with less and less until eventually you can do everything with nothing,'” as well as “negative entropy,” or the outflux of disorder to maintain stasis.

A key aspect of Kurzweil’s law of accelerating returns is that it is a naturally occurring phenomena, like biological evolution, that it advances outside the will of human beings. But how could it be outside the will of humans when humans are doing all the inventing? A theoretical innovator along these lines, and in fact someone cited by Kurzweil as “the first Singularity theorist,” was Henry Adams, historian and descendent of US Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams.

In Adams’ paper “A Law of Acceleration,” he outlines how the “coal-output of the world, speaking roughly, doubled every ten years between 1840 and 1900, in the form of utilised [sic] power, for the ton of coal yielded three or four times as much power in 1900 as in 1840.” Adams surmises technological advances compatible with Kurzweil’s “exponential growth,” going so far as to state: “A law of acceleration, definite and constant as any law of mechanics, cannot be supposed to relax its energy to suit the convenience of man.”

Adams’ observation about the production of coal in the United States is prescient of another oft-cited theorem in entrepreneurial circles, and by Kurzweil, concerning integrated circuits specifically, and the advance of technology in general. This theorem, called Moore’s Law, “observes that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors on an integrated circuits doubles every two years.”

Moore’s Law has been appropriated by tech culture to represent a standard rate of advancement of technology itself (never mind that “advancement” along these lines is little more than “whatever happens to occur in tech”). A key aspect of this dynamic is its immutable progress irregardless of the wills of individuals. Adams’ coal metaphor and the entrepreneurial application of Moore’s Law entail that acceleration of technological advancement will forge ahead, whether any actual people want it that way or not. It “doesn’t suit the convenience of man.”

And because this immutable acceleration of tech kinda sorta resembles biological evolution, to Kurzweil, they are one and the same thing.

At one point in “The Singularity is Near,” Kurzweil states that the end result of biological evolution is the survival of a species, and that the end result of tech advancement, which he calls “evolution,” is to fulfill a parameter set by the designer called the “utility function.” But in order to place biological and social/technological “evolution” within the same narrative of exponential growth, he merges their respective results into an extremely convoluted metric he calls “order.”

For Kurzweil, “order [is] information that fits a purpose. The measure of order is the measure of how well the information fits the purpose.” Except such a “measure” is not really very clear, certainly not falsifiable. Which is to say, when you can “order” anything to fit your purpose, how could you ever show it to be wrong? This is perhaps why Kurzweil’s critics are often scientists who subscribe to the falsifiability criterion of scientific theory.

Kurzweil even says, “For order, we need a measure of of ‘success’ that would be tailored to each situation.” So “order” is determined by “success,” and “success” is determined on a case by case basis according to…basically whatever serves Kurzweil’s argument. Apparently the most ordered and successful of all scenarios involves the hybridization of humanity with tech along a timeline determined by benchmarks in technology. Thus, “evolution” can means whatever Kurzweil wants it to mean.

If the joining of these disparate types of “evolution” doesn’t work, then the exponential growth schema Kurzweil constantly references falls apart. The beginning of Kurzweil’s exponential graph of the “law of accelerating returns” includes biological evolutionary growth at the left end, like the development of the opposable thumb, which takes a long time. The middle of the graph includes social and cultural development, like the emergence of agriculture, writing, and art, which moves along a much faster timeline. The end of the graph includes computing advancement, which moves even faster.

So the graph takes an exponential curve not because humans have moved inexorably along a track of “accelerating returns,” but because Kurzweil has “ordered” data points that reflect the narrative he likes.

It’s no doubt true that the speculative inquiry that informed Kurzweil’s creation of the Singularity also informed his prodigious accomplishment in the invention of new tech. But just because a guy is smart doesn’t mean he’s always right. The Singularity makes for great science-fiction, but not much else.

Why the future doesn't need us.

Our most powerful 21st-century technologies - robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotech - are threatening to make humans an endangered species.

From the moment I became involved in the creation of new technologies, their ethical dimensions have concerned me, but it was only in the autumn of 1998 that I became anxiously aware of how great are the dangers facing us in the 21st century. I can date the onset of my unease to the day I met Ray Kurzweil, the deservedly famous inventor of the first reading machine for the blind and many other amazing things.

Ray and I were both speakers at George Gilder's Telecosm conference, and I encountered him by chance in the bar of the hotel after both our sessions were over. I was sitting with John Searle, a Berkeley philosopher who studies consciousness. While we were talking, Ray approached and a conversation began, the subject of which haunts me to this day.

I had missed Ray's talk and the subsequent panel that Ray and John had been on, and they now picked right up where they'd left off, with Ray saying that the rate of improvement of technology was going to accelerate and that we were going to become robots or fuse with robots or something like that, and John countering that this couldn't happen, because the robots couldn't be conscious.

While I had heard such talk before, I had always felt sentient robots were in the realm of science fiction. But now, from someone I respected, I was hearing a strong argument that they were a near-term possibility. I was taken aback, especially given Ray's proven ability to imagine and create the future. I already knew that new technologies like genetic engineering and nanotechnology were giving us the power to remake the world, but a realistic and imminent scenario for intelligent robots surprised me.

It's easy to get jaded about such breakthroughs. We hear in the news almost every day of some kind of technological or scientific advance. Yet this was no ordinary prediction. In the hotel bar, Ray gave me a partial preprint of his then-forthcoming bookThe Age of Spiritual Machines, which outlined a utopia he foresaw - one in which humans gained near immortality by becoming one with robotic technology. On reading it, my sense of unease only intensified; I felt sure he had to be understating the dangers, understating the probability of a bad outcome along this path.

I found myself most troubled by a passage detailing adystopian scenario:

THE NEW LUDDITE CHALLENGE

First let us postulate that the computer scientists succeed in developing intelligent machines that can do all things better than human beings can do them. In that case presumably all work will be done by vast, highly organized systems of machines and no human effort will be necessary. Either of two cases might occur. The machines might be permitted to make all of their own decisions without human oversight, or else human control over the machines might be retained.

If the machines are permitted to make all their own decisions, we can't make any conjectures as to the results, because it is impossible to guess how such machines might behave. We only point out that the fate of the human race would be at the mercy of the machines. It might be argued that the human race would never be foolish enough to hand over all the power to the machines. But we are suggesting neither that the human race would voluntarily turn power over to the machines nor that the machines would willfully seize power. What we do suggest is that the human race might easily permit itself to drift into a position of such dependence on the machines that it would have no practical choice but to accept all of the machines' decisions. As society and the problems that face it become more and more complex and machines become more and more intelligent, people will let machines make more of their decisions for them, simply because machine-made decisions will bring better results than man-made ones. Eventually a stage may be reached at which the decisions necessary to keep the system running will be so complex that human beings will be incapable of making them intelligently. At that stage the machines will be in effective control. People won't be able to just turn the machines off, because they will be so dependent on them that turning them off would amount to suicide.

On the other hand it is possible that human control over the machines may be retained. In that case the average man may have control over certain private machines of his own, such as his car or his personal computer, but control over large systems of machines will be in the hands of a tiny elite - just as it is today, but with two differences. Due to improved techniques the elite will have greater control over the masses; and because human work will no longer be necessary the masses will be superfluous, a useless burden on the system. If the elite is ruthless they may simply decide to exterminate the mass of humanity. If they are humane they may use propaganda or other psychological or biological techniques to reduce the birth rate until the mass of humanity becomes extinct, leaving the world to the elite. Or, if the elite consists of soft-hearted liberals, they may decide to play the role of good shepherds to the rest of the human race. They will see to it that everyone's physical needs are satisfied, that all children are raised under psychologically hygienic conditions, that everyone has a wholesome hobby to keep him busy, and that anyone who may become dissatisfied undergoes "treatment" to cure his "problem." Of course, life will be so purposeless that people will have to be biologically or psychologically engineered either to remove their need for the power process or make them "sublimate" their drive for power into some harmless hobby. These engineered human beings may be happy in such a society, but they will most certainly not be free. They will have been reduced to the status of domestic animals.1

In the book, you don't discover until you turn the page that the author of this passage is Theodore Kaczynski - the Unabomber. I am no apologist for Kaczynski. His bombs killed three people during a 17-year terror campaign and wounded many others. One of his bombs gravely injured my friend David Gelernter, one of the most brilliant and visionary computer scientists of our time. Like many of my colleagues, I felt that I could easily have been the Unabomber's next target.

Kaczynski's actions were murderous and, in my view, criminally insane. He is clearly a Luddite, but simply saying this does not dismiss his argument; as difficult as it is for me to acknowledge, I saw some merit in the reasoning in this single passage. I felt compelled to confront it.

Kaczynski's dystopian vision describes unintended consequences, a well-known problem with the design and use of technology, and one that is clearly related to Murphy's law - "Anything that can go wrong, will." (Actually, this is Finagle's law, which in itself shows that Finagle was right.) Our overuse of antibiotics has led to what may be the biggest such problem so far: the emergence of antibiotic-resistant and much more dangerous bacteria. Similar things happened when attempts to eliminate malarial mosquitoes using DDT caused them to acquire DDT resistance; malarial parasites likewise acquired multi-drug-resistant genes.2

The cause of many such surprises seems clear: The systems involved are complex, involving interaction among and feedback between many parts. Any changes to such a system will cascade in ways that are difficult to predict; this is especially true when human actions are involved.

I started showing friends the Kaczynski quote fromThe Age of Spiritual Machines; I would hand them Kurzweil's book, let them read the quote, and then watch their reaction as they discovered who had written it. At around the same time, I found Hans Moravec's bookRobot: Mere Machine to Transcendent Mind. Moravec is one of the leaders in robotics research, and was a founder of the world's largest robotics research program, at Carnegie Mellon University.Robot gave me more material to try out on my friends - material surprisingly supportive of Kaczynski's argument. For example:

The Short Run (Early 2000s)



Biological species almost never survive encounters with superior competitors. Ten million years ago, South and North America were separated by a sunken Panama isthmus. South America, like Australia today, was populated by marsupial mammals, including pouched equivalents of rats, deers, and tigers. When the isthmus connecting North and South America rose, it took only a few thousand years for the northern placental species, with slightly more effective metabolisms and reproductive and nervous systems, to displace and eliminate almost all the southern marsupials.

In a completely free marketplace, superior robots would surely affect humans as North American placentals affected South American marsupials (and as humans have affected countless species). Robotic industries would compete vigorously among themselves for matter, energy, and space, incidentally driving their price beyond human reach. Unable to afford the necessities of life, biological humans would be squeezed out of existence.

There is probably some breathing room, because we do not live in a completely free marketplace. Government coerces nonmarket behavior, especially by collecting taxes. Judiciously applied, governmental coercion could support human populations in high style on the fruits of robot labor, perhaps for a long while.


A textbook dystopia - and Moravec is just getting wound up. He goes on to discuss how our main job in the 21st century will be "ensuring continued cooperation from the robot industries" by passing laws decreeing that they be "nice,"3 and to describe how seriously dangerous a human can be "once transformed into an unbounded superintelligent robot." Moravec's view is that the robots will eventually succeed us - that humans clearly face extinction.

I decided it was time to talk to my friend Danny Hillis. Danny became famous as the cofounder of Thinking Machines Corporation, which built a very powerful parallel supercomputer. Despite my current job title of Chief Scientist at Sun Microsystems, I am more a computer architect than a scientist, and I respect Danny's knowledge of the information and physical sciences more than that of any other single person I know. Danny is also a highly regarded futurist who thinks long-term - four years ago he started the Long Now Foundation, which is building a clock designed to last 10,000 years, in an attempt to draw attention to the pitifully short attention span of our society. (See "Test of Time,"Wired 8.03, page 78.)

So I flew to Los Angeles for the express purpose of having dinner with Danny and his wife, Pati. I went through my now-familiar routine, trotting out the ideas and passages that I found so disturbing. Danny's answer - directed specifically at Kurzweil's scenario of humans merging with robots - came swiftly, and quite surprised me. He said, simply, that the changes would come gradually, and that we would get used to them.

But I guess I wasn't totally surprised. I had seen a quote from Danny in Kurzweil's book in which he said, "I'm as fond of my body as anyone, but if I can be 200 with a body of silicon, I'll take it." It seemed that he was at peace with this process and its attendant risks, while I was not.

While talking and thinking about Kurzweil, Kaczynski, and Moravec, I suddenly remembered a novel I had read almost 20 years ago -The White Plague, by Frank Herbert - in which a molecular biologist is driven insane by the senseless murder of his family. To seek revenge he constructs and disseminates a new and highly contagious plague that kills widely but selectively. (We're lucky Kaczynski was a mathematician, not a molecular biologist.) I was also reminded of the Borg ofStar Trek, a hive of partly biological, partly robotic creatures with a strong destructive streak. Borg-like disasters are a staple of science fiction, so why hadn't I been more concerned about such robotic dystopias earlier? Why weren't other people more concerned about these nightmarish scenarios?

Part of the answer certainly lies in our attitude toward the new - in our bias toward instant familiarity and unquestioning acceptance. Accustomed to living with almost routine scientific breakthroughs, we have yet to come to terms with the fact that the most compelling 21st-century technologies - robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotechnology - pose a different threat than the technologies that have come before. Specifically, robots, engineered organisms, and nanobots share a dangerous amplifying factor: They can self-replicate. A bomb is blown up only once - but one bot can become many, and quickly get out of control.

Much of my work over the past 25 years has been on computer networking, where the sending and receiving of messages creates the opportunity for out-of-control replication. But while replication in a computer or a computer network can be a nuisance, at worst it disables a machine or takes down a network or network service. Uncontrolled self-replication in these newer technologies runs a much greater risk: a risk of substantial damage in the physical world.

Each of these technologies also offers untold promise: The vision of near immortality that Kurzweil sees in his robot dreams drives us forward; genetic engineering may soon provide treatments, if not outright cures, for most diseases; and nanotechnology and nanomedicine can address yet more ills. Together they could significantly extend our average life span and improve the quality of our lives. Yet, with each of these technologies, a sequence of small, individually sensible advances leads to an accumulation of great power and, concomitantly, great danger.

What was different in the 20th century? Certainly, the technologies underlying the weapons of mass destruction (WMD) - nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) - were powerful, and the weapons an enormous threat. But building nuclear weapons required, at least for a time, access to both rare - indeed, effectively unavailable - raw materials and highly protected information; biological and chemical weapons programs also tended to require large-scale activities.

The 21st-century technologies - genetics, nanotechnology, and robotics (GNR) - are so powerful that they can spawn whole new classes of accidents and abuses. Most dangerously, for the first time, these accidents and abuses are widely within the reach of individuals or small groups. They will not require large facilities or rare raw materials. Knowledge alone will enable the use of them.

Thus we have the possibility not just of weapons of mass destruction but of knowledge-enabled mass destruction (KMD), this destructiveness hugely amplified by the power of self-replication.

I think it is no exaggeration to say we are on the cusp of the further perfection of extreme evil, an evil whose possibility spreads well beyond that which weapons of mass destruction bequeathed to the nation-states, on to a surprising and terrible empowerment of extreme individuals.


Nothing about the way I got involved with computers suggested to me that I was going to be facing these kinds of issues.

My life has been driven by a deep need to ask questions and find answers. When I was 3, I was already reading, so my father took me to the elementary school, where I sat on the principal's lap and read him a story. I started school early, later skipped a grade, and escaped into books - I was incredibly motivated to learn. I asked lots of questions, often driving adults to distraction.

As a teenager I was very interested in science and technology. I wanted to be a ham radio operator but didn't have the money to buy the equipment. Ham radio was the Internet of its time: very addictive, and quite solitary. Money issues aside, my mother put her foot down - I was not to be a ham; I was antisocial enough already.

I may not have had many close friends, but I was awash in ideas. By high school, I had discovered the great science fiction writers. I remember especially Heinlein'sHave Spacesuit Will Travel and Asimov's I, Robot, with its Three Laws of Robotics. I was enchanted by the descriptions of space travel, and wanted to have a telescope to look at the stars; since I had no money to buy or make one, I checked books on telescope-making out of the library and read about making them instead. I soared in my imagination.

Thursday nights my parents went bowling, and we kids stayed home alone. It was the night of Gene Roddenberry's original Star Trek, and the program made a big impression on me. I came to accept its notion that humans had a future in space, Western-style, with big heroes and adventures. Roddenberry's vision of the centuries to come was one with strong moral values, embodied in codes like the Prime Directive: to not interfere in the development of less technologically advanced civilizations. This had an incredible appeal to me; ethical humans, not robots, dominated this future, and I took Roddenberry's dream as part of my own.

I excelled in mathematics in high school, and when I went to the University of Michigan as an undergraduate engineering student I took the advanced curriculum of the mathematics majors. Solving math problems was an exciting challenge, but when I discovered computers I found something much more interesting: a machine into which you could put a program that attempted to solve a problem, after which the machine quickly checked the solution. The computer had a clear notion of correct and incorrect, true and false. Were my ideas correct? The machine could tell me. This was very seductive.

I was lucky enough to get a job programming early supercomputers and discovered the amazing power of large machines to numerically simulate advanced designs. When I went to graduate school at UC Berkeley in the mid-1970s, I started staying up late, often all night, inventing new worlds inside the machines. Solving problems. Writing the code that argued so strongly to be written.

InThe Agony and the Ecstasy, Irving Stone's biographical novel of Michelangelo, Stone described vividly how Michelangelo released the statues from the stone, "breaking the marble spell," carving from the images in his mind.4 In my most ecstatic moments, the software in the computer emerged in the same way. Once I had imagined it in my mind I felt that it was already there in the machine, waiting to be released. Staying up all night seemed a small price to pay to free it - to give the ideas concrete form.

Google is working in internal/personal in terms of Transhumanism. We already have programmed perceptions to change , imagine what they would do with this and how much they could control remotely that you couldn't if you allowed them to do this.

Google foresight: Web giant patents plans to build electronic eye implants



Google's ‘intraocular device’ is the latest development in a tech race to literally get inside people’s heads.



The unnamed product is designed to improve ailing eyesight and is currently at the patent stage of development, so details are sketchy.

However, the web giant appears to be working on new wearable - or should we say livable - tech that would see an electronic lens inserted into people’s eyeballs.

The device could help fight degenerative eye diseases that impact the eye’s ability focus on near and far objects, an ocular function known as the ‘accommodation reflex’.

The process would involve removing the eye’s natural lens and replacing it with an artificially intelligent one, according to the patent application.

It is similar to current treatments for cataracts, except Google’s proposed project includes an “energy harvesting Antenna” power supply, a lens interface, an electronic lens, and data storage capabilities.

Google say existing problematic lenses could be removed by ultrasonic vibrations and “via suction.”

Solidifying fluid injected into the eye apparently keeps the implanted device in position, and it could be inserted by laser-cutting an opening into the eye lens.

“Positioning of the intraocular device, fluid, material, or elements could be accomplished by using a laser or other surgical instrument to form a hole in the anterior surface of the lens capsule,” the patent states.

But Google isn’t the only company with this vision. A patent application by Sony earlier this month showed they might one day produce a slightly less invasive, but similarly futuristic, smart contact lens.

The device, made to be worn on the eyeball, would include camera-like abilities.

Like Google’s idea, it could be linked to an external device “for example, a smartphone, a tablet… a personal computer.”

An antenna is “wirelessly connected to an external device and has a function of transmitting and receiving data and a function of supplying and receiving electric power.”

In their patent background, Sony state a desire to have the “image pickup” or camera controlled at the blink of an eye.

Stuart Hameroff on Singularity 1on1: Consciousness is More than Computation!

Dr. Stuart Hameroff is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Psychology, and Director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona. Together with British quantum physicist Sir Roger Penrose, Hameroff is the co-author of the controversial Orch OR model of consciousness.

I first met Dr. Hameroff at the recent GF2045 conference where the usually mild-mannered Ray Kurzweil went out of his way to make it abundantly clear that the Orch OR model is totally wrong. Other scientists I met there called it "speculative," "non-testable" and "unscientific". By now both Stuart and Roger must have become accustomed to such attacks, and I have developed a lot of respect for the calm but firm way they are daring to stand their ground. Furthermore, if the Orch OR model were to be correct, then, there will be profound implications on variety of fields and disciplines such as medicine, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, quantum physics and philosophy. And so I decided to bring Dr. Hameroff on Singularity 1 on 1 where we can confront the controversy head-on.

During our 1 hour conversation with Stuart we cover a variety of interesting topics such as: how he got interested in studying consciousness and the definition thereof; why understanding anesthesia is the route to understanding consciousness; the hard problem of consciousness; why the brain is more than a classical computer; how Hameroff reached out to Roger Penrose after reading The Emperor's New Mind; the Orch OR model and why the vast majority of scientists are disdainful of it; the best ways of proving or disproving the Hameroff/Penrose model and the most important implications if it is indeed correct; out-of-body experiences, quantum souls, afterlife, and reincarnation; Hinduism and Buddhism; cryonics and chemical brain preservation; Stuart's upcoming paper [together with Roger Penrose] where they will review and present new evidence in support of the Orch OR theory.

Transhumanism can so easily be disputed by nontech. Everything about Transhumanism depends on technology and as if that is all there is. This conversation is not about tech so much as what has been proven by tech to have always existed since we inhabited these human bodies... tech not of the 3.0 Transhumanist kind...
